Recently bought Dee Dee a L400 Delica Spacegear exceed 1 aeroroof and love it! It is the winter version one with the two batteries etc. In the last month I have put 3500km on it out to the rockies and down to Olympic national park. Great for camping. Looking at maybe making some modifications on it to make it more camping friendly. Recently found the forum after the purchase and I must say its very impressive probably could have helped me out with a few things at purchase time!

over and out

Hi WezWalley,
Welcome to our cult.

Glad you've been getting out n about with yr Deli. Look forward to you joining us on camping treks locally, we camp alot and are always curious about modifications owners make, and neato things they carry. Have you removed any seats for camping, or do you use the existing seats for a bed. Tell us some more.

Cheers, Christine.

Hi Christine,

Have removed the middle rotating three seat for camping. Put the two back seats up and slept on the floor. Unfortunately our cheap blow up mattress failed on the first night and we spent the rest of the trip sleeping on the floor :-) , methinks when all the seats are in and folded into a bed it might be alrite in an emergency but longterm chiropractic bills could be expensive!

Been trying to come up with a better solution tonight, thinking of purchasing/making an old wooden chest (12"Dx36"Lx18"W), putting another sheet of wood with fold down legs attached to top of the chest and secured with hinges so it folds out to make a wide platform. Mattress goes on top of that and the back three seats. Benefits: good for storage, doubles as a benchseat when not in use, leaves room for more gear, can easily pull it out when you want to. So many options. Have been looking for a simple solution to the problem, got any ideas? or recommendations? What kinda setup you got for camping?

Cheers,
Ben

Hi Ben, we removed our rear bench, and replaced it with a very cunning wooden folding shelf bench thing that Jay built, that allows the front seats to be used for passengers or picnic mode. We can fit 9 milk crates under the bench, so all the stuff stays hidden from sight and tidy, yet ready to go camping on short notice. If you're interested, we actually have it available for sale as Jay built a second version. Yeah, we had 2 air mattresses die on us, I think it's some lunar conspiracy thing, so now we use foam cushions, cleverly zipped for different uses. We're in Burnaby, near North Road, if you want to stop by sometime we can share ideas. Cheers, Christine.

I have yet to try it in the L400, however I have no doubt it will turn out similar to the L300...
basically we always folded the seats flat and put a queen size air mattress on top of them, quite comfortable, even for multi-week excursions.
The only hesitation I have so far for the L400 is that the designers of the L400 seem to have forgotten to put a "flat" setting on the rear bench, it locks either up at an angle, or down at an angle... I may have to open up the mechanism and see if I can add a lock at flat.
