New Member - Halifax Nova Scotia

Post by jeriatric »

Hi All,

New member - seriously looking for my first Delica. I have concerns about parts and my geographic location - Atlantic Canada, but am hoping reliability and preventative maintenance will help.

Right now am debating whether to:
1. Import myself
2. Buy in Vancouver this summer and drive home
3. Deal with a local guy who tells me he can import one

Anyway - looks like a lot of great info on this site, I'm just starting to digest it all. Thanks!
If anyone has suggestions based on their experience, feel free to chime in!

There is an option 4 where you get the Delica from an importer or pick up one that is already here and get it sent out east...perhaps by rail?

The dealer that we bought our Delica from has sent vehicles out east for customers before. However, a road trip would be pretty fun!

There are definitely some very sweet, well looked after/updated/modded vans up for sale here in BC right now- some of them are making me wish a little that I didn't already own one! Loki's van, Delicat's and Mararmeisto have all had some amazing work done to them... waaaay better than anything straight off the boat!

I would have to agree. If you are in the market for an L300 there are some really good well cared for private sale ones right now. If I didn't have one already I'd go that route if I were you. Fly out and drive it home, no better way to get to know your new ride than a road trip. That's what I did. Sure is a good time to buy an L300 if that's what you are looking for.

Good luck

A few more good suggestions for sure!

I love the idea of buying from a member of this forum - seems you get a bit more background and community accountability. Loki and Delicat's are looking pretty hot, and as jwfchase points out, way nicer than FOB.

FYI - I will be in Vancouver July 9 - but I know timing is a bit early yet! I still can't take my eyes off the Delica ads.

Road trip? I may have to do some calculations on that one - mileage not incredibly great for these beuaties it seems.

Still dreaming for now...

If you buy mine I will throw in as much Veggie as you feel the van can hold, should be able to get you all the way through Ontario, maybe farther

depends on your definition of "great"... compared to most any vehicle this heavy, they're great, compared to a honda civic they suck, but the honda civic won't take you up the side of a mountain on a rough cut line and have room to sleep comfortably in it at the top... nor will it carry 7 people in comfort on a road trip to another province.

Personally I think a road trip has 2 great advantages, first of all, what better way to get to know your new vehicle? and secondly, this is an amazing country we live in, I always love the drive accross, and while I have never driven from vancouver to halifax, I have driven from calgary to montreal several times, calgary to halifax once, and calgary to victoria more times than I can count, and apart from the time when I broke up with my girlfriend while passing through ontario... I've loved every trip.
