Hey all!
I am appealing for information from Alberta Delica owners who are currently insured in that province. As I am in the process of moving to Calgary and have been seeking insurance coverage there, I have run into an interesting question.
There is no problem getting insurance or to register the vehicle there (once it has passed inspection for Alberta) but the issue seems to be in getting collision insurance. They are asking for an appraisal on the van which will then enable me to be fully covered.
The question I have is... how have any of my soon-to-be fellow Albertan Delica owners dealt with this or have you run into this at all?
Thanks for any info you can help with!
Cheers!
Ian

You know I have not run into a problem what so ever. TD is my broker, they just wanted to know what my sales slip said on the cost of the vehicle. Very easy process.

Hey Jaggedfish,
My insurer, Meloche Monex wanted that also for collision converage. My importer (Luxury) included an appraisal from an independent appraiser here in Calgary, that turned out to be for a few thousand more than I paid. Shoot me a PM if you want his contact info.

Thanks for the feedback so far guys! Much appreciated and interesting at the same time that there seems to be different experiences. Will be chatting more with my insurance agent in the next day or so.
Jungle Jon... might take you up on that shortly if I'm not able to deal with it here in BC prior to coming to Calgary. Thanks!
TD might be a good bet as noted by Aclarker... I bank with them anyway...
Lookin forward to meeting some new Delica peeps and exploring some new areas out there.
Cheers!

I used CRS:Merrill - no inspection required and no concern about RHD.

I'm not in Calgary, so this might not totally apply, but when I moved to Ontario last summer from BC my insurance company wanted an appraised value of the vehicle too, BUT it had to be from a Mitsubishi dealership and on company letterhead.
So all I did was go to my local dealer and tell them what I paid for it and they typed it up right there along with the year and VIN number...no issues from there.
So it may be that easy for you too.

I imported through Luxury just like Jungle Jon, so got the same company's appraisal. Not sure if my insurance needed it, but since I had it, they took a copy.nvanadm wrote:I'm not in Calgary, so this might not totally apply, but when I moved to Ontario last summer from BC my insurance company wanted an appraised value of the vehicle too, BUT it had to be from a Mitsubishi dealership and on company letterhead.

If you do have to go the dealer route, I'd suggest trying Platinum Mitsu here in Calgary. They have sponsored a rally car, and are aware that their rally car would have trouble at the rallies if Green1 and I didn't provide radio communications using our Delicas. Might give you an added edge.
