Re: OOP OK Headlights
They could just sell them at a premium and make a bit of $$ while still helping others...
A novel idea!

I believe if you are a registered dealer, that it should be up to you to source parts that are in demand such as these.
It appears to be a touchy subject and I understand why.

they probably stand to gain more by being one of the few that can sell the vans fully complianced at least for a while, it' seems a bit moot at this point as it seems hat several dealers have access to the lights as they are selling the vans with them installed.

Re: OOP OK Headlights
I spoke to one of the dealers selling L400s and he told me that the headlights are costing them $800 a pair and they have a contact in Germany through which they order them. For small quantities they have to get them shipped by air which adds almost $200 to the cost so they have been only ordering 3 pairs at a time as they get buy and sell vans. It turns out that the lights are back ordered right now so they actually have a few L400s sitting around waiting for headlights.

Re: OOP OK Headlights
If there is any interest, I could try and bring in a few lights from Germany when I'm on vacation. Just send me a PM

Re: OOP OK Headlights
I am bringing in a L400 Delica, and will be having some Headlights shipped from Germany.
Part numbers:
Left headlight: MR162655
Right headlight: MR162656
Apparently in stock. Don't have a final price, but $250 EU each I think, plus shipping.
PM me if I can help.

Re: OOP OK Headlights
Aren't those numbers for a series 2, not 1 ?
Would be nice if they are the correct one's.

I believe them to be for a series one, as I found the numbers on some other sites. I am trying to get a photo of the part to make sure.jfarsang wrote:Aren't those numbers for a series 2, not 1 ?

Of course, none of the JDM importers I have phoned have helped me out. Kind of stupid, I think, as I am going to need parts and the like for the life of the vehicle. Don't they realize that some people are going to do it themselves? And those that won't, likely never would. So why be so secretive?

Noticed one dealer is fitting what looks like L300 headlights to the L400. Not too bad looking really...

It doesn't look that bad either, add a little trim in the gap above the light or even an LED strip light for DRL or just looks, couldbe good... or it could look hideous.

Re: OOP OK Headlights
All the dealers know how to get them and how much they cost.
If they don't pony up the $1,000+ per set and put in something of lesser quality/asthetic appearance, then they are either selling it a lot cheaper compared to a normally outfitted L400 or they are making that much more off the buyer.
I like the OEM look personally.
If someone can find something similar that looks good and above all, fits like a glove, I would be all over it like white on rice.

Re: OOP OK Headlights
I'm pretty sure those aren't L300 headlights, I'm not entirely sure what they are though, could possibly be post face-lift L400 lights? (much easier to get then the pre-facelift ones) or something entirely different...Noticed one dealer is fitting what looks like L300 headlights to the L400. Not too bad looking really...

This has been mentioned over and over again. Cost is $1,000+ per set.
It's not a big deal. It's something that needs to be done.
For anyone who is whining about it, consider it part of the cost of the vehicle. It's really that simple.

Re: OOP OK Headlights
I think this is what is in my L400. I believe mine are from a ‘98 and they have obviously been modified.
I agree that the cost of these lights are just part of ownership, but Im not whining. I figure with the price reduction I got on my vehicle with these lights I was able to get into the market that much sooner (it is winter TODAY here).
The lights I have work fine and are fully compliant, they just don’t fit right. The van has made compliance and has now been registered in two provinces. However, I totally see replacement lights as a possibility in the future, along along with a few other items that go with owning a vehicle you love.
The lights I have simply give me some breathing room; to upgrade on my own time while still being able to legally operate the vehicle. Hopefully I can find a good deal on the real thing some day when Im flush and I’ve taken care of a few other details.
But, RIGHT NOW I am just happy to be driving this awesome machine as the streets and highways of South-Central Alberta are in the worst shape I have ever seen (and I have travelled these roads for many years). It’s true: these things are amazing in the snow.
