Engine would not start...now solved. : )

The burnt line had almost no slack. It was stretched to the max. My skinny fingers did its thing.

Most importantly, what do I replace this wire and connection with so it doesn't burn again?

Does anyone else have a cluster of crap like mine?

Sunday AM.
Keys in, lights on, horn works, glow plugs click, full power everything but the engine would not crank/turn.
I smell something but don't think about it. Can't be late. Good thing for second car.

Sunday nite I SEARCH Delica forum (search search....i'm getting impatient). Maybe cause I was helping my sister move all day and was just getting tired by this point.

Monday I call CVI (Edwin, my cheat cheat), he gives me a list of things to do and I borrowed a volt meter from work. Not that I really know how to use it. lol...I did confirm 12 volt on the battery.

So last nite I check wiring to battery everything looked ok, then next on the list was the solenoid.
Ok, get my Delica book, hmm where is the Solenoid? Ok, where is the starter? Book, forum ........Will have to call Jay on Tue.
I suck as a mechanic.

Poking here and there i look at the battery area one more time and I find a connection that is burnt. Hm, is this it?

Let's see, keep the wire in the burned plug, stretch my long arms to the ignition, crank, I GET A START AND A SPARK! And the wire was HOT!

So what part does it actually operate? Starter/Solenoid combined?
Such an important wire and yet it looks like it was re/re .

Sorry your post got buried amongst other posts, just noticed it under unanswered topics.

I think you and Jay worked on your Delica after this post, hope everything was solved. What was the answer to what the wire does?

Hey i've got a reply!

Problem was solved thank you.
Jay was able to use the same line. Just needed a bit of cleaning and some marine electrical grease to prevent corrosion in the future. Can't remember the name of the product.

The wire is the main line for the starter/solenoid. I think the ground.
Without it could not start at all. Everything worked including glow plugs just would not start.

CHECK YOUR LINES EVERYONE (NEWBIES LIKE ME ONLY APPLY ). SIMPLE FIX.
Just annoying when you don't know what to look for first. But now you do.

Now i've got a running van.

Hi guys This wire is called a fusable link. Its purpose is to prevent fires!!!!!! example a short in the wiring system
There are a few types of links depending on load ( amps ) some you will find are coloured coded ( white /Green /Black/ Blue
White is the most common you will have to check a workshop manual to see what rating you have. its a good idea to carry spares just in case

A couple of my other links look like it's going to go sooner then later too.
Carrying spares sounds like a good idea.
Gonna have to do the beer/pop barter system to get this done.

wow, thanks for posting this! i thought i had some sort of catastrophic equipment failure but it turned out to be the fuseable link that shook loose. i'll have to put some tape on there to keep it together.

The plastic plugs are getting brittle with age,so the clips that hold the plugs together break off. Issac's problem was where the fusible link wire connected to the spade connector burned out/worn off.So just had to reconnect it together.Cheers Jay Tardis

And yes, if your van has got dual batteries, locking doors, rear gate release, and something else which escapes my mind, then your battery box is a "cluster of crap". Instead of being fused from the fuse panel or a second fuse panel that is not switched out by the ignition, it seems the Japanese have hard-wired all those connections into the battery box, which makes it just a bit too untidy for my liking.

I had this exact same problem and need to make a patch. Does anyone know the amperage rating on the fusible link? Or where I might find some?
