Hi from UK L400 owner

Post by strangerover »

Hi all in Canada...
I know some of you frequent the MDOC and Delica Friends forums in the UK and you guys have probably seen some of my posts.

I see you guys finaly get your hands on the L400 and I'm sure that just like in the UK there will be heated debates on which is best...

me... I like the L400.. and would like to share with you guys what you can do to them as I bought mine as totaly standard.

Some parts are available off the shelf but most took a bit of work to source.

here is a recent meet pic from a show we did last week....

When I go offroad I go with all kinds of other stuff, e.g. LandCruisers, Nissan Patrols and Land Rovers...
my L400 never lets me down !

Here is a list of some of the things I have done (and so what you guys can do)

Snorkel - source Delicashop in Oz
16" wheels - from Mitsubishi pickup truck
265/75/16 tyres (32" high) - needs some body bashing but easy job (try getting them on a L300 without major mods)
2" lift- Iron Man kit
rear Antiroll bar and brake bias adjustment spacers - saw in Japan, now I make in UK
Uprated 5mm thick rock crushing bash plate on the front - Sourced via Oz now made in UK
Rock sliders - Custom made using rock / tree sliders from a Land Rover Defender 110
Curtains - source Hong Kong (aftermarket ones as I did not have factory ones)
ARB air operated rear Diff lock - you need to use a L400 LWB axle to fit
Rear overhang protectors (allows me to drop of a step)

I have loads of pics of what I get up to...

common problems with the L400....

1) Expansion Tank - these fail with age.... I know there is a guy in Canada with these in stock or try Delica Shop in Oz (or me)
2) Fuel pump oil seal... common on the 2.8 engine and looks a huge job... in reality its a £10 part that takes 4 hours to fit.
I have written a guide on how to do it on the MDOC forum but in short if you can do a cylinder head gasket you can do a oil seal.

If any of you have questions etc please feel freee to contact me and I'll help as best as I can.
Looking forward to what you guys do to them !

Funny enough I was just thinking of making a post about adding things to the L400. I am still waiting for my low roof/swb L400 to arrive from Japan. I actually had some in-dash stereo and speaker questions. Currently looking at installing http://www.crutchfield.ca/ProductDetail ... 130P8000BT judging by pictures alone I figure this radio will fit. What size are the speakers in the front? are they in the doors or in the dash up top? I might even splurge on a custom install for a surround-sound-type set-up. What's your take on stereo install and what not? Love the van BTW...so far out here on Vancouver Island there aren't alot of L400's but soon our numbers will increase! :-D

Speakers...

up front 6" or 6.5" will fit in the doors but you are a bit limited by depth,
they also have small 4" dash speakers and on the Royal Exceed they have dash tweeters as well.

I have an Amp powering a set of component speakers and also extra 4" in the dash powered by the head unit.

The rear ones are 6x9 but again very very limited by depth.

Over here there are many owners with big systems..

I have also fitted a 7" screen in the rear roof on a fold down mount.

Nice ride strangerover and great add-on work.

Do you think that Mitsu awning would fit on an L300? Source or part number?

Thanks,
:M Dan :M
