Which got me to thinking, "Hmm, wipers that sit vertical in the center of the windscreen in the off position, and wipe downwards."
It would look a bit like a split window deal. Unfortunately, altering the wiper drive system (and the blade location to center) would probably put this out of the realm of easy mod, and into the "John's off his meds again!" category!

Sad thing is that the split windows' wipers never sat like you said... they were just like a regular car, except they had one speed and were a mere 12" long.
I wonder where my old split is now???

I was thinking that having the wipers straight up and down in the middle would give our vans a "faux split window"delicat wrote:Sad thing is that the split windows' wipers never sat like you said... they were just like a regular car, except they had one speed and were a mere 12" long.

Hey, it's considered fancy and frou- frou to do a faux finish in your house, so why not the van??

I like the sound of your plan John! Sitting in the passenger seat when it's raining is a drag for visibility as the wiper only clears about 2/3rd's of the area in front... Fine for the driver, but everyone likes to see clear ahead no? And hey, delicat, got any more pictures of that ole' split of yours? Post em eh?

Happy Day!

Hey,
I really appreciate this thread!
It it makes some of the mods
I have baked up seem easy
and painless in comparison.
I think gull wing doors might even be
easier than that now! heh heh heh...
(no time,no money no problem
)
Dare to dream!
Right on!

Gull wing doors?
You know, you can't have one without the other!

Getting up to 88MPH is a bit of a challenge though! Well, maybe not for the silver bullet!

And I don't think the alternator quite has enough to produce the "1.21 jigowatts" required.delica 304 wrote:Gull wing doors?

Another thread jack...but seeing D-304 post from thinkgeek.com(I'm a frequent shopper there) reminded me of one of their other products that Jay and Christine might like:

What if a person was to install wipers like the Lumina Vans/Corvette, they wipe from the centre to the outside?

Re: Someting Konadog said got my mind 'a turnin'
Actually, I gotta say: All my life I wanted a '68 Chevy short box moon buggy (van). I though it would be really cool if I could get one with 4WD. As the years went by I realised that my dreams of a real '68 Chevy van were diminishing. Then I met the Miss Lil' Bitchi. It was love at first sight.

Konadog,
Since you ask here's one of my all time favorite VW picture I took while on a road trip to Mexico... (the one behind the truck). The other pictures are ok, just couldn't post the link without them!

Great shots!! Yeah, the first one is ESP. good - What a great little ride that bus - I still get nostalgic about my 71 - Not a split, but she still had cool tail lights and an upright, bug motor. It all started south in 72 with the pancake mill and no acess hatch!?... Ahh well... Thanks for the pictures David!

Happy Day!
