The DelicaWiki lists the K&N 38-9207 as a fit for the 4D56T engine. In my Delica (1992 Exceed, 4D56T), this is DEFINITELY NOT THE CASE. If you are running a K&N 38-9207 in your turbocharged Delica, read this post and check your filter NOW.
The stock filter from my Delica measures exactly the same as the specs for the K&N E-4810. Sure, the 38-9207 will fit in the cannister, but it will not seal around the engine air outlet at the top, which will allow unfiltered air to pass directly in to the combustion chamber. The 38-9207 is also about 2cm larger in diameter, which restricts flow of intake air around the filter. Additionally, the stock filter is fitted with a louvered plastic collar, which should be fitted to any replacement filter. It centers the filter at the top of the cannister and also diffuses intake air around the entire filter. This part will not fit around the larger 38-9207 filter.
Unfortunately, for me, I had opened the factory sealed bag on my $130 special order filter before I realized that it does not fit even remotely properly. Thankfully, the guys at my local Lordco took the filter back and are exchanging it for an E-4810. I'm really surprised that they took it back.
I'm not sure how that part number ended up in the Wiki, but it was an expensive mistake for me. If other people are running this K&N filter in their Delicas, I would get them out ASAP as your engine is breathing completely unfiltered air all the time.
I do realize that it is possible that some 4D56T applications have a different cannister that fits the 38-9207. If that is the case, the details need to be figured out to avoid having other people make this mistake.

Re: K&N Air Filter Part Number Alert!
You can get fram air filters from CVI in richmond for 35.00 or maximum overdrive also in richmond for 18.00 (japanese make) also the fuel and oil filters are a lot less expensive from these 2 sources 25.00 and 16.00. I will cross refrence in a pinch but found it best to buy from the guys who know.Oil Frams from lordco run around 35.00 but for my dollar Id rather run the Japanese after market filters or even the original Mitsu filters for 5 bucks more

Re: K&N Air Filter Part Number Alert!
That's great, BUT, it has nothing to do with my post at all, as I am talking about K&N life-time reusable performance air filters, specifically regarding what seems to be an incorrect part number posted on this site. I didn't mention oil filters at all.
Thanks though.

Re: K&N Air Filter Part Number Alert!
There are already a few threads about the K&N Filter. A few people wrote this filter let too big particles in the combustion compartment and they not recommend to use it.
Anyway, if you want to change the number in the Wiki, just write Vanjuggler http://www.delica.ca/forum/members/vanjuggler-722.html He is in charge of the Wiki.

It is not clear which filter you are refering to. The K&N 38-9207 will most definitely "let too big particles in the combustion compartment", as it DOES NOT SEAL.fexlboi wrote:There are already a few threads about the K&N Filter. I appologize if this issue is covered in other threads. I went directly to the Wiki for the part number, and have already posted an amendment there as well.
Paul, I appreciate your intent, and didn't mean to sound bitchy. I've used K&N filters for 10 years on other vehicles, and I'm very aware that they are expensive, but even at $18 a filter, that's about 7 filter changes. At $35, its 4. I plan on keeping my Delica for more than 5 years. Should pay off over that time, PLUS, I'm not throwing 7 used air filters away.sayulita101 wrote:...hate seeing people get ripped on parts.
