timing case leak?

Post by jamiesin »

so, I just recently installed a veggie kit on Delicious (the one that is being sold by andrewh). it was a fun project and a great bonding moment with my father, but I now have a fuel leak. I went through and re tightened/ re checked everything, changed the diesel fuel filter to make sure that wasn't the source and have spend a lot of time sitting and watching the leak trying to figure out where it is coming from. I'm sure it is a fuel leak and not a coolant leak. the van was working amazing before I installed this kit. My neighbor has also spent quite a bit of time trying to figure it out. He is now 100% certain the leak is coming from my timing case. Is this a possibility? I've tried numerous search combination's and can't seem to find any info. The leak is pretty steady. Not just a drip. It leaks both diesel and veg depending on what the engine is running. It starts leaking about 5 minutes after the van has been on. I'm about to give in and take it to a mechanic, but that is also another problem, I don't know of any good/honest diesel mechanics in Ottawa... anyone?
thanks.

take a couple of pictures of the area if you can, and maybe use a paint program to make it really clear where it is, this will help people help you. ask a couple companies with lots of diesel trucks, where they go, then go there, they may not work on passenger cars but are more likely to know a good place to go (it's a place to start anyways)

No chances it could be your Injection pump leaking? Especially if it's leaking diesel or wvo depending on what you are running at the time. This would be a much more common problem than the timing case. You'll need to clean around the IP, use a good light and look all around, especially on the driver's side.

Let us know how it's working out and good to have another wvo user on the forum!

so. here is what happened.
my neighbor was able to convince one of his friends to come over and have a look at the leak.. who happens to know quite a bit about diesel engines. both of us had spend quite a bit of time examining this leak and just couldn't figure out where it was coming from. so when he arrived I started up the van and well, NO LEAKS! we couldn't get it to leak. no idling problems, nothing. just smooth running and a beautiful smell. what the hell? really messed up. the only thing I did was take out the banjo bolt and checked for the 15th time that the copper washers were in the right place. so. i didn't question it. took a nice drive out to wakefield qc and parked for a while. started up again 5 hours later no problems. this morning taking my wife to work no problems. super stoked. now to having a hitch made. I'll post pictures soon. as for andrewh and his kit. it's great. really easy to install. good instructions. clean wiring. runs amazing. NO LEAKS!

Good! Hope it will stay that way!

Are you located in Quebec? If so you must be one of the rare Delica remaining and even more if running on veggie. Let me know is you are indeed in Quebec...My van is currently parked in the Laurentians for the summer until I come back to the country in the fall and we could try to meet.

Cheers!

Hey David,
I'm in Ottawa. It would be great to meet up with you when you get back. You can check out my centrifuge setup and wvo system and see what we've done with your brothers deli so far. I can also supply you with a bunch of oil if you need it to get you a bit of the way home. My wife and I will be in Ottawa until Sept 1st, then we are off to the east coast for two months. It will be hurricane season and the swell will be off the hook.

hi
is your deli new to you? its not uncommon for the injection pump to leak. a very common fix for leakyinjection pumps is to run WVO through them. i know of at least 2 delis that fixed IP leaks by running veggie oil. one went from a steady stream to no leak at all after 2 tanks of 50/50 wvo/diesel. one of those never ran wvo again and still has not leaked a drop 1 year later

Enjoy!
