Got my Deli about a month ago now...

Post by Airwick »

Got my 5speed exceed Deli after reading a bunch on here and asking a couple of questions. I looked at a few and even checked out the L-400 (thanks for your time Mardy, it was great meeting you).

Got a nice hitch put on at Alpine here in Victoria and took the my first drive on the highway pulling the boat today. I had pulled around the block and to the local ramp once before but that didn't count ;)
Anyways, I pulls great and is really stable, can't really tell the trailer is there other than it's a bit slower starting up at lights... Happily cruises at 90-95 and I must say the short gearing is great for that.

We still haven't found a name that really stuck (although we've tossed a couple options around...) but it will come soon...
91 5speed exceed with crystal lite roof (all shades work too!) and cool box, just under 90000km, needs a new exhaust soon and a couple bushings here and there but otherwise in good running order (maintained at CVI by it's previous owners).

Welcome.

Yes more about your Corsair!!! How fast have you sailed?

Huge mult hull fan, though I have never owned one; just the mono hulled fast sink types.

Thanks for the warm welcome and I am very thank full for all the information I found on this forum as it really helped me a lot in deciding to get a Delica and how to go about it.
I didn't expect such so much talk about the boat given that it is a Delica forum but here we go: The boat is Corsair F-24 MK2 (see http://www.corsairmarine.com/index.php] here), I've had it for a couple years now and it's been a lot of fun both racing and cruising in the gulf Islands. Its a very versatile boat that is small enough to be easy to handle with just 2 of us and gets really exciting when the wind picks up: we've had it going over 17knots a couple of times and it will comfortably maintain speeds over 15 for long periods of time in the right conditions. It also handled 8 people on board for a day sail (still were doing over 15knots) and 4 of us went cruising for 5 days last summer.

And yes, I had to make sure I got a Deli that had a matching color scheme ;), now I just need an extra set of matching rims for the trailer... Just kidding I didn't actually pick based on color even though I do like the white, and it reminds me of my old Hyundai H-100 which is basically a re-branded 2wd, LWB, non turbo version of he Delica (that's not me on the picture):

Note that boat transportation was already part of the plan (and before you ask I did not drive far like this), however some of you might have seen something like this on the streets around Victoria:

And if you thought it was a bit sketchy and out of proportion, you were right and you won't be seeing it anymore...

I just need to get an EGT gage for peace of mind and I'll be ready to take on the Mallahat and expand my cruising grounds so you might see me roaming around the Island a bit this summer.
Oh and I try to make sure I wave whenever I see another Delica but I don't have the reflex yet, feel free to honk at me if I forget!

apparently I did things in the wrong order... I got rid of my Hobie 18 before buying the Delica (for those non-sailors in the group the Hobie 18 is an 18' long catamaran with a 28' mast... way overpowered and a whole lot of fun)
