If you want to continue to have the right to import vehicles or maybe even to use and sell the one you have, it's time to step up to the plate. Most of you have heard about the Quebec 180 day ban on the inspection and registration of personal use RHD vehicles. Some of you may of heard of the Canadian Automobile Dealer's Association (CADA) attack on RHDs and imported vehicles which soon followed the Quebec ban. The Candian Council of Motor Transport Adminsitrators (CCMTA) is currently meeting in Winnepeg bringing together dealers, insurnance companies, provincial transportation officials and the automakers. The word from inside the CCMTA is that there will be a coordinated push during this meeting to get all Canadian juristictions to follow Quebec's lead. The choice is yours. You can sit on the fence and watch your rights be erroded or you can get involved and let government know that we will not tolerate having your ability to choose what you drive taken away.
You can keep updated on what's happening and what you can do to help by regularliy visiting the RHD Policial and Legal section here on DELICA.CA and by visiting the Imported Vehicle Owners' Association of Canada forum at IVOAC.CA.
Thanks, John

What would you suggest everyone do?elbosque wrote:If you want to continue to have the right to import vehicles or maybe even to use and sell the one you have, it's time to step up to the plate. Here in Vancouver, I just got back from the ballots, so I can't imagine any prompt reply by contact/writing to anyone in my riding. What else can be done, I've never had to stand up and fight the powers that be?

Re: Battle for Imported Vehicles
Doesn't really matter if you get a reply. What matters is that they know that there are people out there who are upset about this attack on the owners of imported vehicles. Your elected representatives need to hear your voice, even if it is only a few lines. They are under pressure from a corporate special interest group. Your job is to convince them they will have more political collateral respecting the wishes of ordinary citizens than these corporations who have already been extremely subsidized by you - the tax payer. You might ask why is it that the Canadian auto industry received so much corporate welfare when they employ so few compared to the other Canadian industries which have to compete in terms of quality and price on a global scale. Take for instance the forest industry which has been hit harder and employs more poeple but hardly received any tax payer support. I suggest that you hit the issue from as many angles as you can and make as many allies as you can. Just don't expect help from the new car dealer's association.

All good points thanks.
It would be nice to get some good publicity on our plight. A write up in any of the publications around Vancouver would go a long way.
