pooped rad hose

Post by kidwrecked »

My wife came down the driveway in a cloud of steam and I feared the worst. BUT reassured by the true quality of the Japanese I opened the hood to find that the top rad hose had just popped. I made a quick call to Delicat for a part number and then went in search for one locally. (thanks David). I was not able to cross reference the Mitsu part number from Lordco, Napa, or my local Mitsu dealer, so I went trudging to the back wall of my local Lordco to find a match. Now that I've made your eyes blurrrry from my rambling I just thought that I would let everyone know that the part #Dayco 70440 from Lordco fits perfectly with a slight 1/2" trim to the long end.

No problems with my Deli other than now having to clean the sticky glycol from my engine.

if the rad hose popped, there's probably a reason... you might be lucky and it could just be deteriorating rubber, but it's also possible that you have a blown head-gasket or cracked head...

a couple things I'd recommend doing:
1) check your radiator, make sure it's not clogged and causing overheating issues
2) with the rad cap loosened off and the engine off, try to start the engine, keep your fingers on the key so you can turn it off quick, if coolant gets forced up through the loose rad-cap you have a problem (either blown head gasket or cracked head)

Yes, thank you for the concern. I was a little worried at first but I did all the appropriate tests and it is just a faulty hose. I will be doing the timing belts/tensioners/water pump/rad,etc. this summer.

I was just forwarding the Lordco part number with a long winded write up.

When I killed my upper rad hose (due to a cracked head which in turn was due to a clogged radiator) the mechanic took the dead hose to Lordco, found one that had a matching section in it, chopped off the rest and we were good to go... I'm starting to really wish we had Lordco in Alberta!

Now that we figured out the Dayco part number it should be easy for a local supplier to find one.

It will be nice in a few years when we have all the part numbers crossed over to this continent.

No I'm not volunteering to do the ominous task.
