Hi,
When I start my van it idles at almost 3000 rpm....that doesn't really seem right, and then of course when I go to shift into drive or reverse it jumps b/c of the high rev..... big problem? Also, and this is new, when I brake, right before i come to a full stop the van jumps a bit (twice)....Does this sound like something that needs immediate attention? I have had what seems like a million little things go wrong with my van this year and would really like this to not be major.....
ahhhhhh...thanks for your help:)

Re: idle too high
Is it an automatic or 5spd ?
If it's an auto, 3k RPM is horrendously high for idle. It should be at 750-800 rpm in Park/Neutral and in all the gears. Maybe a variance of 50-80 between P/N and D or R.
If you're in Victoria, give Noel a call 380-3947 at www.enviroimports.com He will either sort you out or point you in the proper direction.
As for brakes, a few sudden lurches when coming to a stop are you caliper(s) grabbing. You can have that checked out at any mechanic or brake place.
Just be certain to let the people know that the brakes are a 1988 Mitsubishi Montero (north american). That way, they will be familiar with them.
When many shops see a Delica, they tend to look at it like an alien spaceship, when in fact the running parts underneath have been in vehicles in north american for over 20 years.

Re: idle too high
on an auto, if this is a sudden problem, I would suggest you check the hand throttle knob near your left knee... if that's locked on you could have that issue.
The other option I can think of is the Idle asjust screw in the engine compartment, however I doubt that the idle adjust screw would go that high.
