VO-diesel switchoff

Post by phunka »

It's probably been asked a hundred times already, but I'm curious as to after a conversion, can you still run on regular diesel? perhaps your unable to find any used veg-oil, and still want to use your van?

if you have a two tank system then the answer is yes. in fact you must be able to switch because you must start on diesel and purge out the veg to diesel when shutting down for a length of time

Yes, the wvo system itself with our vans typically runs on 2 distinct tanks. One for diesel (stock) and one for veggie oil. There's a 6 way valve (or two 3 way valves) that control if you're using veggie or diesel. One system (before Loki brings it up :-D ) runs on one tank but not as common.

We need two tanks system so that the van can be started when cold on diesel, switched within 3-5 min later on veggie once the veggie is warmed up to proper temperature and before shut down the system is switched back on diesel to purge your lines. If you tried to cold start on veggie which is much thicker than diesel you'd have big problem (wouldn't start).

That is a very abbreviated explanation of how it works, you should visit the wvo forum on this club or visit other forum like http://www.frybrid.com to understand this better.

Glad to have you interested in this!

yes you can still run dino diesel, in fact most people (not me :)) use a 2 tank system that requires that you start up and dino and purge the wvo out with it again when finished driving.

Okay, yea that all makes sense. And is all very interesting, i think what little hesitations I had are slowly being disolved.

So the tanks, are they generally similiar in size, or does the wvo require more room? dif tank?

I will check the links, but it's nice to open another discussion on the topic up.
