Gas (or rather, diesel) mileage??

Post by adamski »

Just wondering a few things: (again...) :shock:

How much does it cost to fill up these days and how far can you go on it?? Just looking for a rough number.....I know all kinds of factors are involved. Thanks again. This community of owners sure seems dedicated to the cause to say the least!! Thank you everyone for the advice and photos already given!!

Cheers. 8-)

Diesel is currently at around .90 per litre. The automatic transmission model takes 75 litres and I usually fill up at around the 60 litre mark, when in town. The manual transmission model takes 65 litres of diesel. The petrol version takes 56 litres I understand.

There has been a lot of discussion around this - search for "fuel economy" and read away.

I found that with an automatic I get on average :

10 km/L highway
8 km/L city

With a similarily tuned 5-spd I get on average :

8 km/L highway
12 km/L city

Reason is that I'm a light-footed driver in the city and 100-110km/h highway driver.

The auto is great on the highway but so-so in the city.

The 5-spd is geared for city driving hence the big difference between auto/5spd km/L in the city.

..I get 550km highway driving and 475-500 city. That's 8-10 l/100k... I will expect better with the intercooler/alcohol injection system I am currently installing..boost will be raised to 14lbs. (PWR water/air intercooler and a cool-mist alcohol system) This combined with my 2.5in SS exhaust and blocked EGR....the intercooler alone (my specific style) should bring a 20% increase in milage.(if I don't put my foot into it...) :-) I'll document the install and post when Edwin at CVI is done installing my new rad with external coolant heater and a new fuel rail on my Deli tomorrow. :-D

Snow;
Driving style in the snow;
Quality of Winter diesel;
Temperature;
State of your tyre treads;
Tyre pressure;
Ice.
You might need a tune up.

My Russek manual states 55litres fuel capacity- all models. As I have measured my fuel capacity vs. kilometerage, it holds 55litres.
All models? Ok some may vary.

Based on what? If you have an automatic with dual tanks, the fuel gauge is calibrated for a single tank and will say you're empty after 55 litres. You still have 20 to go...

Russek does not cover some of the peculiarities of our 4WD models, and this is one of them.

then they vary A TON, I have had fill ups that where over 70 liters, had to do that in a 55 liter tank.

I find my mileage improves with 4WD. It is all the spinning that uses up the fuel. I will use more fuel using 2WD in the snow than when using 4WD. With the chains on it is better still.

Falco.

P.S.: The most I have filled up in litres is 68, but I have never run out of fuel.

Another big drop in winter fuel economy comes from idling or having to let it warm up before you can drive. As for the fuel guage being calibrated for 55 litres I had no Idea, need to check that out. Do all autos have dual tanks?
I would rather wear out then rust away.
