Delicas and flyfishermen

Hi all,
I posted a few pics of my Delica to both the Saskatchewan and Alberta flyfishing forums I belong to. The folks in our flyfishing community are stoked about them, seems like the transportation anwser for those that like to cast the long rods - lots of room, go anywhere, and comfy to overnight in.
Any other flyfishers in the group?
We have some of the most amazing multi-species flyfishing here in Saskatchewan.
If anyone would like to come out to Prince Albert for a fishing trip, just let me know. I'll take anyone that wants to go out. I'll provide the flies if you need some of our patterns. I even have extra gear if you have need.
We have rainbows, browns, brookies, tigers, lakers, splake, northern pike, walleye, goldeye and grayling.
Sounds like Shepherd is looking into coming this spring.
Accomodations, licensing and everything else is still really reasonably priced here. And hardly anyone really knows what a gem of a place we have here - the only good thing about our province having a lax promotional agenda.

I love flyfishing, although I haven't been able to get out as much as I'd like. I'm hoping to get a trip in to Regina to see a buddy later this year, and I might just have to take you up on your offer. 8) How late does your hopper season go?

Though I barely have room, I plan to bring my Fish Cat and a couple of fly rods to the Delica meet. Already hoping to meet Delicanuck early at Weaver lake to give it a go. Anybody else want to hit Weaver Lake friday day?

Been through Prince Albert bout 18 years ago, was blown away; as a coastal boy I didn't know that Sask' towns can be pretty. Never fished there, one day.

Jon, I started flyfishing when I lived in Calgary. I got really hooked on chasing those 'downtown browns'; being in the middle of a urban area catching beautiful rainbows and gnarly browns blew me away too. Is the fishing in the Bow still OK in town? I tied up a couple of Hoppers years ago, never used em, wouldn't even know where there are now.

Ultimate west coast flyfishing is chasing Coho, which don't visit my area any more.

Lately I'm all about swinging big streamers for Iron Noggins on the spey rod. This is my second winter at it so I am starting to get the hang of it(six fish and counting!) Kev, you must have some half-decent Steelhead rivers over where you are. The Pinks and coho are both pretty good where I am. I haven't had a chance to feel like a purist (you know dries) for a while but the last trip I did to the Upper Skagit was excellent. I also really enjoy visiting my inlaws in Quesnel which gives me a chance to fish Dragoon Lake ( up to 15lb rainbows) and the Black Water which is an amazing river.

You would think so, but there are only two small creeks in town with good salmon numbers. One only has 2 hundred yards before the fish ladder with only 23 Steelie's returning in 2003; and the other creek in on native land, which I have fished only a few times. By boat you can visit some pristine rivers, always looking for a fishing companion for those trip (I only seem to know working stiffs)!

What rivers do you fish Andy? Is the Sayward river still good? Spey fishing is the most perfect river fishing to watch, I have spent half a fishing day watching em' on the Veder. Haven't seen a real live steelies in well over 12 years though; my childhood spoiled me though; born in Bella Coola and just 25 years ago could bike to VI to catch Iron noggins to 20 lbs. Ya know, the good old days for Salmon were just 20 years ago. Really wish I could have shown my son the same fishing I experienced.



Not sure, but didn't they close Dragoon for last year or this year - or was that just a threatened rumor?

I guess the rivers that I have heard of over that way are all boat access.

What rivers do you fish Andy?

If you tell me where you surf (what about Ha---n's) I will tell you where I fish.

I haven't fished the Salmon river (Sayward) before because I have found enough rivers to satiate me furter North.

I guess I made a spellllling mistake on Dragon Lake in Quesnel and as far as I know it hasn't seen any closures although I usually only fish it twice a year. (ice off and fall).

For those that haven't been here, you'll be amazed - as I was when I first moved to northcentral Saskatchewan.
Like I said, Canada's best kept secret.
For those interested, there are 10-15 lb rainbows. There's even one young guy who caught a 37 lb rainbow south of me. He and his brother have caught some 20s and a couple 30s. They're unreal.
I have caught northern pike on big streamers (like steelhead flies) up to 25 lbs.
There was one fellow here that caught a 49 lb pike - it was grotesque.
Like I said, Shepherd is hoping to come up in June. We should set some dates for those close enough or horny enough about big fish on the fly rod.
Hoppers - HA. We tie adult dragonlfy patterns for big browns and brookies.
Because the season is so short here temperature-wise, the fish are really agressive.
Bring a belly boat. If you don't have one, I can get one for you.
