Don't need one I already have one!!

You boys won't know whats hit you when you finally get the 400 over there, all that luxury and refinement!

But seriously the 300 and the 400 are completely different animals, and it is down to the individual as to which one you choose.

The 400 has a good point and a bad point in the 2.8 engine, it has more grunt than the 2.5 but is also more juicey.

Also I personally think that the 400 has a better driving position than the 300, and also the rear access is much better than 300 with the ability to walk through the car from the front to the back.

Apparantly they are pretty good off road aswell, but the closest mine gets to off road is on my drive so I couldn't comment on that!

Have to agree with the loving of the L400, mine has a lift, 33"tires, fender flares, nav system, indash dvd/tv/aux inputs, Im allready planing a roof rack with a slight curve to it to go with the curve of the roof. Toys are good
I still love the L300 but nothing wrong with some options.

L400. Who's getting one ?

Post by jrman »

Just back from a week in Japan - and the L300 truly are getting harder and harder to find over there, just my assessment based on what I could see on the street since I'm not in the car business. But, I travel to Japan every spring and fall and I used to see so many every trip - but this time I only saw one L300 in 8 days of travelling. Saw quite a few L400 and some darn nice units to boot. I'm still an L300 fan - but wouldn't rule out an L400 from my future either.....hmmm, maybe one of each!

See now thats the best plan I would love one of each.

A 300 for work and play and my 400 for everything else

Next time you go, take a drive through Chiba city, seems like the whole place is a car lot strip, we drove over an hour of 100% nothing but car lots, I found some of the most AMAZING L300s and L400s all of them tottaly done up, I was all over an L300 there that was like nothing i had ever seen, Chromed axels, Stainless exhaust, cromed trans.transfer case, the previous owner put over 10g in chroming and add ons all new Leather bucket seats, full custom interior, it was like something you would see at a vegas car show for what your vehicle could be. It was 15yrs old, but at around 16G in japan + all the fees to get it here, its a 20+G vehicle, something only a collector with SERIOUSLY deep pockets would buy.
If your really looking for something amazing and a true gem, the auctions are NOT the place to look. If the car lots cant sell there stock, then it goes to auction, and keep in mind, Aussys and Kiwis can and nomally take the cream of the crop at 10 years old, not like here in Canada, where we make sure that import vehicles Dont come with air bags and newer safe measures... Its a good thing that we dont let in newer import vehicles, that could upset the car maket industry here. the big 3 could end up in trouble ... OOPS, to late they cant survive on there own with a monopoly... but thats a whole other kettle of fish...

When I look at the pictures the base 2WD L400s look wimpy, but the base 2WD L300s do too. We just don't see many low-spec Delicas in Canada - by the time they are 15 years old few are worth exporting, if they are even still on the road. These were generally working L300 commercial vans and have been run in to the ground, unlike our pampered Exceeds, Chamonix and Super Exceeds.

I know a lot of people didn't know what to make of the first L300s when they started appearing on B.C. roads. Ugly? A face only a mother could love? Or just plain funny-looking? Only when people got used to them did they realize just how cool "functional" could look, and learned that the Delica wasn't all show, it had the grunt to go with the looks. The same will happen with L400s, I'm sure.

Add some lights, a bull bar, big tires and 4WD and jack up the ride height, and you get a worthy vehicle, L300 or L400. When the time comes to replace Gumdrop, I will definitely want to look at an L400. As long as the Brits, Aussies and Kiwis leave some for us Great White North folks to play with. :-)

There are plenty of things that can be done to the 400 as there is with the 300

From this

To this

And everything in between.

Its just knowing where to start and where to stop!

Yeah, I suppose once all the L-300's are gone will resort to an L-400. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure they're a great vehicle, but for me the cab-over design of the L-300 is the foundation of what is so great about them. I'll miss that... :M
