the adventure begins

Post by bryanc »

i decided a few weekse ago to replace my mazda 2200 2wd pu with a4x4 mazda or nissan ,then i decided it should be diesel so i could run wvo or bio diesel ,i'm looking through the buy sell and trade online for a desiel mazda or nissan p/u[hard to find] when i see this ad for 4x4 turbo deisel unsual looking but way cool mitsubishi van! to make a long story short now i must have one.i've spent the past week and a half researching and reading just about every post on this siteand a great site it is far better than the ausie club site in my opinion.now i just have to decide if i am going to buy from a local lot, a local importer ,a private sale or my own personal favorite so far, go straight to japanese exporter,my wife is a bit skeptical of that one[it does seem pretty scary, but in a good way i think] a 92 super would suit me fine ,a 92 because i love the look of the chrome bull bars! any way thanks for this site and all the great info i can't wait to join the club!
ps a note to bruce, there is no better place to live on the planet in my opinion than vancouver island ,victoria in particular

Take the plunge.

I did no research, found the only manual transmission deli that was already landed in the lower mainland at the time and I bought it. I would have looked into it more knowing what I know now, and probably would have gotten a broker here to find the exact one i want at an auction in japan and wait for it. As long as the rules stay the same I think I am going to go for a 93 chamonix when I am able to. I love my chamonix, and it just sort of fell into my lap. I don't think i'd want a deli without the rediculous 'specially designed for all season skier' decal on the side. Thats not true, i'd love any one of these things.

I had my heart set on a manual transmission, because, well I just prefer it. I in no way regret my decision, but if I were to have an automatic vehicle it would have to be a delica, it is the only thing I would even consider being an automatic, partly because it is fun to drive whether you are shifting or not, and also top speed in the manual is significantly lower which is the ONLY thing I am not super excited about with my deli.

Other than the manual/automatic advice I think pretty much everything else is covered elsewhere. I'll let you know how top speed improves once I get my 31s. I may have to borrow someones GPS to be sure.

Its an adventure, but just do it. I wouldn't trade it for anything.... ok anything except a diesel mercedes G class, but i'd probably just sell that and get 2 delis.

Good luck.
