welcome new delica enthousiast..but do your research!

Post by surferboy »

Hey folks, just been noticing recently the amount of new people comming on to this site and asking questions that have already been answered ages ago on previous topics that are still there for anyone to view... i find the same old questions about parts availability, where to buy those vans, whats this , whats that...... for those who are new to this delica thing, please take the time to scroll thru all the topics that have already been covered previously and i'm sure that you will find answers to a bunch of questions, it gets redundant to answer the same old questions over and over again... :roll: people on this site have been more than usefull taking the time to research into all sorts of issues in order to help each other out and learn more about those beasts.. so for those just starting out, please take the time to check out all the hard work and researching that has previously been done so this site can keep on growing with fresh information... cheers and welcome everyone :wink:

Mmm, maybe that'd be a good idea to compile all the excellent Delica facts for the FAQ Section. :roll:

Nah, the mariner is right; if the newbie's dig around they'll find out some things they never even thought to ask. :D

Cheers

Kev - who's feeling darn lazily right now.

Its only a matter of time before the more experienced members start yelling SEARCH like all the other forums I visit.

Except we're a lot nicer here.

Ooops sorry. My rude.
Also, when replying to someone who has posted a redundant question, rather than answering, try to make a point of sending them a link to the appropriate post, maybe with a short description of how we are trying to organise things.
And on the topic of consolidating types of data into areas in the forum, Mark can deputize people to be administrators of threads or areas. If some stallwart soul wanted to volunteer to become the administrator of... say... the domestic equivalent parts thread or the downloads section, I bet Mark wouldn't require too much convincing. I am a little swamped these days or I would volunteer. If we ever have a thread on chicken coop cleaning, I'll volunteer for that.

Hi Brett and others!

Indeed, the growing number of posts has made it a priority to improve the "structure" of the forum to make it easier to browse.

Hopefully the recent addition of the "FAQ" and "Downloads" sections will speed things up. Kevin and Bruce have graciously volunteered as editors. Also, Adam has been doing the same for the "Delica Fest 2007" section. All three have been doing a first-rate job!

I'm starting to feel that posts are getting to be somewhat concentrated in this "General Discussion." Perhaps it help if some of the posts were reorganized by moving them into different categories. Any thoughts?

yeah whatever is in here that fits into another category should be moved imo.

As it stands right now I am on here a lot, because I have nothing better to do. I'd be glad to try to keep things organized if you don't have time or would like to spend your time on other things...

Just want to take this chance to thank you again Mark, my deli wouldn't be as happy without this site that is for sure. It has been incredibly valuable to have so many people to talk to. If there is anything I can help with just let me know, all for the love of the van :D

That's a great idea to compile the strength's/weakness and more common technical issues for someone planning to purchase a Delica. If anybody wants to list some information here or PM me any key points please do, that'd be super duper. Should be easy to give a brief introduction of the Delis' with a list of pros and cons.

Eg. Pro;
- Economical and reliable 4 cylinder diesel.
- True part time 4x4 with auto locking hubs and a low range transfer case.
- Excellent all round driver visibility.
- Friendly and helpful owners forum.
- Well engineered and little rust for a 15 year or older vehicle.
- Always having to answer questions about what your driving.

Con;
- Leaky fuel pumps and timing belts may need attention.
- Assorted rubber bits break down; sway arm bushings, horn and diesel lines.
- Tires, radio, tires will likely need changing which is excepted for a vehicle of this age.
- Torsion bars swag with time, lifting them and aligning the front end improves the ride.
- Always having to answer questions about what your driving.

I would be glad to compile of this and list it under the heading Thinking of buying a Delica? in the FAQ section. Maybe we will get this all together before a new post pops up on why buy a Delica.

It would be nice to move some post from general discussion, but we aren't picky cause you do a great job with this forum Mark!

Cheers.

Hey Mark! Wooo Hooo! Look at that! Two stalwart souls already! I think you should sign them up before they come to their senses. Adrock must be going stir crazy to offer to jump into the breach again.

So Mark, Adrock and BCDelica, I'm happy to do what work I can wedge into my schedule, I just don't think I should commit to administer an area and then find a few days later that I'm going to be tied up for days with "work" work. So if you have something sort of "off-line" that you need done, let me know. PM me though so as not to cause even more clutter.

Also, Adrock, don't forget, Steamworks, ales and stouts.

Come to think of it, shouldn't this very thread be in the site suggestions area?
