A few questions from a newbie

Post by Mumbai »

Hi, all! I am Mumbai, a play on the "Indian" word Deli :-D

Anyway, would you be so kind and answer the following questions:

1. There appears to be no cruise control on the currently imported Delicas. Lucky 8 Auto advertises at autotrader.ca that their Delicas do have cruise control. Is it throttle control they are referring to, or do they install the real cruise control somehow?

2. Does anyone know when Mitsubishi started installing cruise controls on Delicas? 1995? 2000?

3. Is there any shop in the Lower Mainland which would install RV batteries and an inverter inside a Delica? Has anyone on the board had it done? Costs? Happy?

4. What are the interior dimensions of Delicas? Are some larger than others? Especially interesting is the distance from the back of the driver seat to the hatch.

5. How hard is it to remove all the passenger seats from a Delica to make it a camper with a flat floor?

6. Do all Delicas have the same 4x4 systems, or some are more advanced than others? Is there a center differential lock? Anything else 4x4 related in addition to lower gears?

Thank you, thank you, thank you :-D

You can have an aftermarket cruise control system installed. No issues.

2. Does anyone know when Mitsubishi started installing cruise controls on Delicas? 1995? 2000?

None that I am aware of.

3. Is there any shop in the Lower Mainland which would install RV batteries and an inverter inside a Delica? Has anyone on the board had it done? Costs? Happy?

Any RV service shop should gladly install an RV/inverter setup. Delica's have a standard single 12V system or a 12V system w/24V startup system.

4. What are the interior dimensions of Delicas? Are some larger than others? Especially interesting is the distance from the back of the driver seat to the hatch.

max floor length: SWB 2,34m LWB 2,74m
max width : 1,53m ( between the wheelarches 1,06m )
max height : low roof 1,26m , high roof 1,36m

5. How hard is it to remove all the passenger seats from a Delica to make it a camper with a flat floor?

Not hard at all. 14mm socket / ratchet wrench and a 12mm socket.

They are heavy and it's easier to remove with 2 people.

6. Do all Delicas have the same 4x4 systems, or some are more advanced than others? Is there a center differential lock? Anything else 4x4 related in addition to lower gears?

All L300's have the same 4x4 system unless they are the 2WD version in which case = no 4WD.

No center diff lock. Driveshaft to rear <- transfer case -> driveshaft to front

Thank you, thank you, thank you :-D

just thought I would chime in here and add a couple of options, if you find you dont need the 4wd and want more room, you can get the cargo version of the delica, has more seats, more room about 2-3feet longer, but normally bare bones inside, as its a cargo van/ delivery van in Japan.

Also if you are looking to really make it stand out and you want a harder core 4x4, you can do a solid front axel upgrade and swap out the tcase , if you do get into some serious 4x4ing you will soon realise the advantage of the solid front axel over the standard IFS .
