Just about there!

Post by mararmeisto »

Okay, so I've slowly been adding some 'shiney' bits to Moon Machine, and the only thing which remains is the windscreen visor. I can't get one delivered to Canada, so Bruce, next time you come you got to bring one with you. :shock: Please?

When I get the van painted in a year or two, I'll 'adjust' the black-on-white paint scheme to be a bit more dramatic, but for now I think it adds a nice highlight to an already cool looking vehicle. What does everyone think? And yes, Bruce, I'll admit I'm a bit of a shiny, but I have taken Moon Machine off the pavement because, well, not all of us have 5 or 6 of these vehicles laying about our driveway: one for the market; one for Sunday driving; one for work; one for off-roading; one for...

Anyway, this is what I've done:
  • -cleaned up the front bull bar plastic with Back to Black (thanks Falco);
    -got some fender flares off a junker, repaired them with a fiberglass kit, painted them black (thanks Glen);
    -repaired the cracks in my spoiler with the fiberglass kit, cut a notch to fit the ladder, then painted it black;
    -cleaned up the ladder, painted it black, added some reflective tape bits at the bottom to accent;
    -removed, cleaned and then painted the trim pieces at the top of the rear gate to blend the black from the windows into the spoiler (nice touch, I think)...
...and this is what it all looks like.
Moon Machine with it's new trim package. Sweet!

No matter how I tried, the ladder wouldn't fit under the spoiler. Not all ladders which fit Delicas would seem to be equal.

I didn't realise I was trying to out-do you. Jealous? :mrgreen:

To the others, thank you. I painted the ladder because, although aluminum, it was corroded and dull looking. This makes it look a lot better, and when/if the paint rubs off from use to the roof rack, I'll just paint it again. :-D

Looks really good! (I admit to becoming a bit a a "shiny" too now that we have a speciality vehicle like the delica - I want it to last FOREVER :roll:) But really, "just about there"? You know as well as the rest of us you will always have little improvement projects as long as you're driving that Moon Machine and I for one look forward to watching them unfold here on the forum - Awesome :M :-D

Hey I have some anti skid tape that I bought for a ladder that I didn't end up keeping, drop me a line if you want it. It will help keep the wear down on your ladder rungs (and keep you from slipping it they're wet)

Thanks for the idea Delica_304. I might have to drive by your place to see what you've got.

Nice one JP - Moon Machine is really starting to look pretty cool 8-) I'm glad you managed to get the ladder/spoiler combo to fit OK....nice work.

Snap! I did the same to mine a month ago....didn't like the dull grey look, so decided to go satin black. Put new stickers on the bottom too because the rainbow ones had pretty much faded away....I decided on an 'urban camo' look!

I also thought I'd put some 'subtle' graphics on the rungs just to give it a little edge. I love shiny black on satin black look....and I'm pleased with the result.

JP - if you want, let me have your address and I'll send you some stickers out too....

I've got some 'grip tape' (for skateboards etc...) in the gargae which I'm fitting some thin strips to the top of the rungs - protetcts the powder coating and makes it less slippy in the wet.

Here are some pics:

I'm liking the black spoiler and rear 1/4 panels - looks very smart. Wheels next? :-D

Bruce, funny, I was just thinking the same thing the other day. As you can see, the center of my wheels are already black, but the finish on the rest of the rims is still good so I might leave it alone for now. If they were all beat up, you can bet the spray can would have been already in-hand for that touch up. PM to follow...
