Tanks

Post by jessef »

I'm antsy to install this plantdrive kit.

Tank is the last thing I need to scrounge up or fab.

Q. Have any of you wvo converts use your stock pair of Deli tanks for WVO and a smaller 30-40L tank for diesel ?

Almost debating just plumbing it that way.

Important thing to consider Jesse is stripping the tanks first; ie. having them professionally cleaned and re-finished. The acids in WVO will strip it; might (maybe, would you risk it) be a different coating inside a 93's tanks. Off course on those long road trip all tanks can be diesel tanks; if needed. But trust me; just like twenty years ago and the 'tiger in your tank' ad campaign that resulted in many lawsuits. The cause was ethanol and tank linings/hoses the deteriorated with repeated contact to alcohol. Have you consider using the larger rear tank in a shared configuration with an additional WVO tank? Once you see how those existing Delica tanks work as one, it's easy to see how easily done it can be. We planned to do so originally, part of the reason I've collected the necessary parts to build two swing away tire carriers (long story as to why that's not working out).

Hi Kev.

Yeah, I'm an advocate of clean tanks/lines, etc. All of the tanks will be flushed/lined. 8-)

Just wondering if anyone's done it that way.

Seems almost easier to plumb the existing tanks for WVO.

I would think leaving the diesel configuration in place and adding a WVO system would be simpler than plumbing in another diesel line/system. Either way, you've got to plumb in another fuel line to the switch-over valve.

Also, are you doing WVO or bio-diesel? If bio-diesel, then you need to worry about the 'eating away' of your fuel lines - it's the methanol/ethanol content in the treated vegetable oil which is corrosive. WVO, or filtered and de-watered vegetable oil, is not corrosive and generally has better lubricating properties than dino-diesel.

As for the tank, there was someone on the mainlaid who fabricated a tank that would fit into the spare tire spot. You might want to look them up for costing/availability.

Spare tire is out. Exhaust is out (to the side). I'm maximizing my space back there for a long range tank.
