Post by D & L »

Okay, so I know some of you think its kinda lame, but I'm looking for the working clino/altimeter instrument console thingy that goes on the dash. Thanks for any help, Leah

I believe the "clino/altimeter instrument console thingy that goes on the dash" is properly referred to as a "Pod" "Dash-pod" perhaps? And as for being kinda lame, there are lots who think it lame or worse to not have one :? Bottom line is it's YOUR bus so if you want one... Mine is the source of a bad dash-cricket but I don't mind it enough to remove it. Glad I don't have the hot/cold box, but I like the pod. Kinda cute and a signature delica touch :M :-)

If you are ever in Vancouver, D&L, check out Rocky Mountain Imports for just parts; Japanoid for parts and installation; also CVI are good. I got mine at Japanoid, cost me $75.00 and they installed it. The first thing I did was drive up a big hill and the first one wasn't functioning properly so I went back and they replaced it with another one that worked. The altimeter is like a barometer in how it works and you have to set it to the weather (high/low pressure, &c.). What I originally did was establish what altitude my garage is at and I set it in the morning before leaving. If you have GPS you can set it with that. Each line on the dial equals 100 metres and is meant to give you an "idea" of your altitude. If you want precise measurements then I wouldn't depend on it, however, your console looks way better with the pod in place than without. I find the inclinometer very useful, especially off road. It is also good for understanding your cornering habits. I understand that any vehicle that is street legal in Japan must be stable at a 35 degree lateral list. The reason I think this is is for cornering. When I turn a corner I will glance at the inclinometer and notice that it is at, say, 15 degrees into the curve &c.. When I was off road once I had the Miss Lil' Bitchi at a 25 degree lateral incline, you know.... the kind of angle that causes you to automatically grab for the passenger panic bars but to my amazement she was solid and not going over. In the meantime you can craftily attach a small fruit bowl or sweets tray to the pod bracket so to hide the missing pod... smiles.

Thanks, I'l look into those places.

Konadog... Thanks for telling me what is called (much easier).

Falco... looking at your profile pic, are you a pilot? If so, who do you fly with? Dillon fly's for CMA. Since he's a pilot, I think that is why he wants to get the pod. (Also, I agree that the dash looks funny without it). Thanks again, Leah

I had the pajero up to a 40 degree side angle. Was still quite stable at that point. I have seen delicas at the same angle but they look like they are about to go over. I call mine the TIPP-O-METER.

I once saw a London double decker omnibus sitting on a platform at a forty-five degree angle and it was stable. Although they look tall, and they are, they have a very low centre of gravity. Most of the uninitiated who first see a Delica think that the centre of gravity is very high and I must admit that when I first measured the wheel base I was surprised to see that it was only six inches narrower than a Chevy pick-up when I thought it must be at least a foot narrower. I would be curious to find a tilting platform (with a big fluffy pillow on the downside) and see how far the Delica would tilt before losing balance. I suspect that they would go to forty-five degrees.... but I would not want to find out on a creek bed... smiles. The Miss Lil' Bitchi weighs 1850 kg (4,070 lbs) empty. The majority of that weight is located in the lower silver part of my van, ergo ~ low centre of gravity.

I agree - it's only nerdy or lame if you let others tell you so. Check out what I did with mine: "Altimeter? Altimeter? We don' need no stinking altimeter! (in a heavily-put-on Cheech Marin voice)"

I still miss my '94 Pajero!
