Hello from Canmore

Post by richholg8 »

Hi Everybody,

Just got my '91 Delica Exceed two days ago, and I am now recovered from the decade long depression I have endured since I sold my Westfalia. Even better, this is 4WD! I'll spend the summer camperizing it and doing a veggie conversion (already converted a Jetta 2 years ago, would gladly answer anyone's questions) and then hit the road.

Every question I've had so far has been answered with the search feature on this site. Many thanks to everyone.

Cheers, Richard.

Hi and welcome Richard,

You must have been very busy doing all those mods... no wonder this is your first post! :-D
(I'm sure you've been lurking plenty though, very hard to resist isn't it!)

When you have a chance to give some extra details of your mods that'd be great, there's always something to be learned along the way. And don't forget pictures!!!

Enjoy your ride!

Another one on the other side of the Rockies - excellent! There just might be enough of you out there for a meet and greet.

You say 'camperize'? What do you intend? Strip out the rear bench and throw in a Westie kitchen unit? Chop open the roof and put a pop-up tent-thingy up there? Looking forward to seeing the pictures on that one.

Anyway, welcome to the group, and well met. Maybe see you some time when I come through there on my way to Calgary...

That is AWESOME! If you stop by internet cafes, make sure you post some pictures and stories from your trip as you go. Something like that is a trip we would love to take.

How long are you planning the trip to be? Do you know where you want to stop over? Are you heading east (Van to NY) through Canada or the States?

On a side note - careful in Miami. It was chosen as the city with the worst road rage in the US, lol. :o

Thanks for the welcome, I'll be looking out for gatherings. I'll be spending some time in BC this summer too so hopefully I can get to one on one of those trips.

As for my planned modifications, it will be a summer long project, the deadline will be late September when I head East to Ontario and then down south through New York and eventually to Kentucky, for a climbing stop at Red River Gorge. I'm going to try to keep the costs down, so that will probably rule out a pop-top, but for sure a gear crate on the top and some sort of fold-out bed and various storage compartments. Second battery, kick-ass stereo, water tank, try to replicate my '85 Westy as much as possible without breaking the bank. The veggie conversion will take up some space too so that will limit how much I can do.

I will post photos as the project evolves.

Cheers, Richard.

Across the north through Canada, then down to New York. Planning to spend 3 months going across canada then 3 months (90 day holiday visa) getting around the states. I'll start a thread on here somewhere when it begins. I might be requiring some assistance from some board members if something weird happens to the delica out there...!

Think I saw you the other day richard - along bow valley trail at about 10pm friday night? I was just getting into an argument with someone in the car so didn't notice you till you went past.
