I just picked up a non-folding basket from Princess Auto for $55... seems like a good deal for what it is, and I'm just gonna be using it for picking up wvo, no off-roading.

When we get one we'll probably go for the metal basket that slides into the hitch. It's the size of a small roof rack, and you don't get the drag and poorer fuel economy of a roof rack. Also, if you ever travel on the ferry, a roof rack (even an empty one) will always make you over height and thus more $$$ to pay.

Here's what the $55 rack looks like:



They have a $99 one now that folds too, but I can just toss this in the van when not in use since I'm not carrying around lots of people most of the time.

Yeah, doesn't look too strong, for offroading I think a tube straight from the rack to the hitch would be much stronger. Also, I don't see the triangular bits mine has, maybe they beefed it up a little after lots of returns.
