Need VIN help

Post by Miloki »

Okay, this seems bizarre to me, searched but couldn't find anything similar on the forums...

I'm picking up a Delica in Calgary. It is registered in BC. It has a BC assigned VIN. I ran the "CarProof Verified" on it, it shows as registered in BC.

I call my insurance company today to put insurance on it, they say it's not in the federal VIN system - that it may have been given a VIN to match it to a person, but there is nothing in the system that shows that the VIN has been registered as a Canadian vehicle (i.e. that it's compliant with Canadian regulations)

I have no idea where to go from here...

Miloki

When I imported my bus early this year (in BC) we no longer had to have a new VIN. They just used the one found by the driver's seat.

ps.
I'm just about to ship the used exhaust, do you still need it?

Good luck!

Thanks.

I've been speaking to ICBC, apparently they have all the paperwork there that shows it's compliant... I didn't entirely follow everything, but it the end I got "the manager says just have your motor vehicle registry phone us"

Of course, before I can go to motor vehicles, I still need insurance, so now I'm on hold with the insurance company, waiting to deal with the supervisor there.

edit - and now I'm told they won't insure it because it was never produced for distribution in North America (grrrr.....)

Yes, absolutely still need the exhaust - contacting you was on my to-do list for today to see what was happening with it! Thanks - let me know how much it costs to send it.

I insured my Pajero with TD insurance. Had no Problem with the vin or the fact it had never been produced for the NA market. They had to override the system to put in the vin but that took an extra 5 min.

Actually, it was produced for NA - badged as the Dodge Raider.
