Plantdrive Install - Tank Help

Post by jskrepnek »

Hi everyone,

I need to consult the oracles (that's you). I'll be taking my Van into Edward @ Plantdrive in a couple weeks for an SVO kit install. With fuel prices, not a moment too soon. At this point he does not have a procedure for installing tank beneath the vehicle, like in the spare-tire well. Instead, he's suggesting a slim-profile marine-type tank, which will be fine if we have to put the tank inside the vehicle.

We'd really like to have an exterior tank, preferably in the spare-tire well. Inside space is a huge premium, so we won't part with it easy. I know some of you have figured out how to put a second tank underneath a Delica. My question is ... is there a straight-forward procedure that I can give to Edward to help make this happen? I realize some of this information is tucked away in the forum, but I was having a hard time sorting out what was what, and what's best. Keep in mind I'll be paying labour by the hour.

Advice? Thanks!

I would suggest send a PM Private message to EricN he knows about the spare tire setup (and it fits above the spare tire), and is a professional mechanic. Others who are running WVO and done their own installs are Frisch, and BCDelica, send them PM's.

Those are the 3 people I have personally chatted with, there are probably others. Lots on upper Vancouver Island, not so many on the mainland.

I'm still looking for a good exterior solution for my tank, but for now it will do tucked behind the rear row of seats. A good deal at $80, but this 20 Gal Jeep YJ tank is too large to fit underneath. I've heard tell of some marine tanks that would fit, BCDelica used a Jeep CJ 15 Gal tank underneath. EricN built his own, and Sean is using a Balzer/Jimmy tank that will fit underneath, but he still has it stuck behind the seats like I do.

I know two people in Nanaimo getting tanks mounted underneath within the next few weeks. One is a Jeep CJ tank and the other is a 114L capacity custom build. I'm waiting anxiously to see the price tags on both ventures to see what I should pursue.

Can be done but not cheap. I have 2 tanks (70l), 1 above the spare and the other one beside the driveshaft on the right side of the vehicle. They are linked by hose and filled at 1 spot.
It cost about $300 in material and took me 2 weeks with a tig welder. I can send a dxf file if you want to have someone fab them. Your exhaust needs to exit out the side though. Or just build the one above the spare which is only 25l and do the other one later.

A tank from the wreckers can be relatively cheap and come with a skid plate. There was a discussion on marine tank options here - http://www.delica.ca/forum/any-reccomme ... tml#p14564
