Hi Azza1,

We don't have the L400 yet, another year or so to wait. (but I think most of us will continue to favor the 300!) As for hitch we have specialized shop that make them most of the time but you could easily make your own in your backyard an be on your way without issues. I understand why Australia has a legislation for safety, makes sense but they haven't come up with that here, not that I'm aware anyway!

Enjoy your summer!
David

ps. Spent 3 months in Australia a few months back, (Brisbane and Melbourne area) great country!

Vehicles not specifically designed and certified for the North American market have to be at least 15 years old to be brought into Canada. So the L400 is a year or so away from being legal.

Not sure what the requirement is for a hitch dealer here in Canada to test the hitches they make, but I do believe they have to build a hitch assembly to particular specifications: number of fastening points, size/weight/type of materials used, etc.

As for why we're building our own or having them built for us, we can't get after-market hitch assemblies here for these vehicle because L300s were never originally sold in this market. In the States for a couple of years, but not here. That being said, there is an importer who has bought a bunch of hitches specifically for us, from the Japanese market (I think).

Sometimes a lucky purchaser will get a vehicle with a hitch already installed, but that seems to be rare.

EDIT to include ADDITION: This is the thread which has Maximum Overdrive advertising hitches for sale: HITCH FOR DELICA

I still miss my '94 Pajero!
