Hi,
We've been having issues with our Delica since we've bought it last year in the fall. We have a L400 Diesel -Chamonix edition and seem to have the following issue only in the fall and winter:
When we start up the car in the morning and let it warm up for a few minutes the car starts to blow white smoke and eventually the engine will stall. Than when I start it up again (which sometimes takes a few tries) it will run ok and warm up and be fine driving the rest of the day. As mentioned we only seem to have this issue in the morning and when the weather gets colder (we did a roadtrip with this vehicle this summer and no issues!). Strangly there seems to be a connection to the time display as this turns on and off after these incidents.
Our mechanic thinks it's electrical related and thinks an EGR kit will fix things, but the import place in Vancouver that sold the car to us thinks it has to do with the fuel line soaking up air. Our mechanic works on diesels and is not a Delica expert, but he checked the fuel filter and thought nothing was wrong with it.
It's pretty scary as I've stalled in traffic before with a baby in the back. In that case it was blowing black smoke and it was shaking like a crazy machine before completely stalling out in the middle of the road.
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions of what the cause might be?
Thank you for your help!
Claudia

Engine stalling, white smoke, electrical issue?
My 98 chamonix stalled in my driveway last mounth after geting harder to start and more smoky. After some trouble shooting it appreaed to be the seal on the fuel pump shaft.Cool thing about the S2 is that it usally only requires that seal not a full fuel pumo overhaul. It was quite an operation but now she starts like a champ! I did mess up the vaccum pump putting back evrything together but I am no expert. She will live and I have learned !! Rising Sun is sending me a replacement vaccum pump. So your local Delica/mitsubishi should know about the fuel pump problem it is pretty common!
Cheers

Try the front seal on the fuel pump - causes an issue with drawing air back into the system - usually after sitting overnight or all day- does it have a fuel mixed with oil leak (usually mistaken for just an oil leak)
