lets play... name that van part!

Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

lets play... name that van part!

Post by lookoutworld »

Hi guys and gals!

So, I found this under my rear bumper. Any idea what it could be? There are wires coming out of it. One end seems to be slightly rubbery (as opposed to plastic-y or metal-y). Could it be a "reverse beep noise speaker!?! A car alarm?! I'll post more pictures of random gizmos I've found in my van too. Maybe they are related.

Thanks everyone!

Hi Scott,
that looks like a little air compressor for an air horn. No hose connector there? Maybe once upon a time it was for a diff lock or a kind of pump-up shockies.

What happens if you unplug the cables and power them (red to battery positive, black to battery negative)?

It may as well be a kind of siren or air horn, but usually it would be open to one side then.

It is NOT original thats sure ;-)

Something funky has happened to your Google image links.
Nothing says "poor workmanship" more than wrinkles in the duct tape.

The thing in your steering column is an impact/shock sensor for an alarm. The thing on the windscreen is a mystery: some kind of transponder, at a guess.

Looks like a two way alarm system to me that has a sensitivity adjustment. Not sure about the thing in the back as it does not look like a typical siren.

Backup alarm with possiblily a Japanese voice warning you that the van is backing up.car alarm shock sensor on the steering column ,antenna for the car alarm on the windshield .follow the wires there is probaly going to be a control box for the alarm system .
