High rpm before shift- Auto
So lately my rpm's have been way too high- 3500 to 3800- before shifting to third gear. I can prevent this if I take my foot off the pedal slightly, but if I just accelerate off the line than it revs high before shifting into third. This doesnt seem to occur in any other gear. Am I looking at a worn tranny here? I have been playing with the kick down cable, as I heard that sometimes they can be adjusted to curb the high revving. So far no luck, as it seems I dont have any more threads on the kick down cable to back off the nuts.

First thing to check is transmission fluid level. Check it with the transmission nice and hot (a 20 minute drive should do it), engine running, and transmission in Park. The dipstick has markers for hot and cold, but the cold side tells lies.
The kickdown cable is more of a throttle position cable, and it must be set to the factory setting or your shifts will be harsh or at the wrong points. Trust me- I've tried adjusting it to achieve different things, and anything other than stock has drawbacks.
I made a guide to resetting the cable length here: http://www.delica.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?f=95&t=17662
If your fluid level is correct, and the cable is adjusted correctly, and it *still* shifts really high something might have failed internally- possibly a sticky governor. That's a transmission out/take to transmission shop/rebuild time kind of thing.

Nothing says "poor workmanship" more than wrinkles in the duct tape.

Thanks for the reply. I just changed my tranny fluid a short while ago, the levels are fine, and the colour is still rosy. Adjusting the kickdown cable didnt accomplish anything for me, as some past posts suggested it would ( or perhaps it did for other people). Looks like I might be facing some stiff shop fees here....

Shit, I gots the same thing goin' on with my brick. Have to check the cable and see what happens. Shifting to 3rd is in the 3,000 plus range.

It's not a good sign that your kickdown cable adjustments had no effect. Might be time to see a transmission specialist.
