So I'm picking up one of these guys:

I am aware that the common issues with mounting racks to the rain gutter on the high roof/crystal light roof.
A couple of questions for those with experience...
What rise do you need to clear the roof and prevent the breakage of the crystal light windows? I'm thinking approximately 8.5 - 9 inches based on my measurements but I could be wrong. I may attempt the fab myself if I can find the time and also the dimensions of the brackets.
Are there any fabricators in Calgary that have done these "L" style rain gutter mounts? (I want to avoid crossbars if I can). Or has anyone found a retail bracket that works (maybe for work van's or ladder racks?)
Thanks!

Not sure the difference between the l300 and l400 but I have the l300 and my baskets are 8 inches and are way above the glass but only have eighth inch clearance in the middle of my roof. Next time I'm going 8.5"

Thanks! I'm going to try on an 8 inch rise and see where it puts me. Concerned that body flex might cause the rack to impact the center of the roof creating pressures that might blow the Crystal lite Windows.

Ya, you have to be careful. Let us know ur findings. Also, I will be making a bunch of the L brackets I hand on my van if you want to take a look. I can make them in any length and they will come either powder coated (any color) our bare metal. Not sure on price yet as I'm still working on that.
