New L300 owner in Denver

Post by Mr.SA »

Hello there! I recently bought an l300 from Vancouver. I'll get pics up later on, was looking for a good 4x4 van and bought it without much research, but so far i've been extremely happy with it. Long term plan is to do a camper conversion, small lift, skid's bumpers etc..
Also.. I'm trying to find a good place to take it for maintenance, if anyone know's of somebody around Denver that works on these that would be great, as i said, i didnt do much research before buying..

Oh and if anyone can give me some advice in terms of maintenance items, modifications, etc.. to do right away, to get this thing ready for some long trips, mellow trails, etc. that would be awesome. I'm learning a bit just looking around on here, but would be nice to have a little check list of important items.

Check out Delica WIKI for most of the info you want. One topic is a list of things to do when you get a new to you Delica. The L300 section also has a list of manuals, modifications and general repair info. Enjoy your new van and let's see some pictures!!

Welcome to Delica Canada, Mr. SA :M

To add to Irp's observations, once you become a little more familiar with your new wagon you might notice that much of the L400 shop manual can pertain to the L300, as well, such as brakes, axles &c., can be useful.

As far as getting prepared for a trip, the Delica is a diesel, has a Robert Bosch style VE distributor fuel pump (made by Zexel), not particularly different than any other small diesel of the period. In some ways they're built a little like an aeroplane with multiple cooling systems, one for the engine, one for the oil, one for the tranny (for automatics), two for the A/C ~ hell, even the stock rims are aircraft mags. Having said that, she's your average diesel truck, the steering wheel happens to be on the other side. One time, when I was getting my sound system installed, one of the places I went to started humming and hawing over the wheel placement, how this issue was going to complicate matters and I'm like ~ really? I went to the next place and they gave me a price. I asked them would the steering wheel be an issue and he looked at me and said ~ really? She's just a truck, a very simple one at that. If anything I would look at all the rubber bits ~ seals, bushings, belts, &c., rubber has a lifespan.

As far as Delica Canada is concerned, have you looked at this thread: http://www.delica.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=9778
You might find it useful for introductory information.
