Should I get it lifted in Japan?

I am importing a 2001 High Roof LE8W for a customer. The car is already bought, and awaiting shipping from Japan to canada. I have the option from my japanese broker to have the vehicle transported somewhere in japan to get work done to it if I wanted.

he is wanting a few items,

Roof Rack
Snorkel
Fender Flares
4" lift kit.


He wants quality and reliability, because he will drive from Alberta to South America, and travel/bushwack for 2 years.

So far, the only option I found in Japan is a company called Heartland-japan.jp

they offer a 4",6",8" lift kits.



the price is 400k yen installed. plus transport from the dock to the business and back. so another 50k yen.

is 450K yen worth it? roughly 5700CDN

I cant see a solid option to get it done myself as a 4" reliable kit.


I have found the snorkel, fender flares from a company called FTS4x4 and prices are good.

Still havent found a nice roof rack thou.

Does the kit price include brake line extensions, new shocks, canadian DOT approved tires, new offset 16" or ? rims, alignment etc? Best to get the whole job done and inspected cuz a lot could be done poorly in Japan and screw your reputation here upon arrival....
If the customer has the time and money to complete the repairs it's a viable deal. The lift kit would need be imported from J after arrival and delays etc. Will the rack fit inside for shipping?? Scary to think what could happen during shipping.

Hi,

Careful with a non factory 4wd conversion. You'll have to tell your insurance its four wheel drive because they have the right to assess the risk of the policy. If you don't, and that major accident does happen, they can leave you high and dry for omitting the modification.

Took me 2 years to get my non factory 4x4 van covered. They are concerned about roll over risks with amateur (non factory) changes to the centre of gravity.

I only got mine in because the company that did the work is still in business 31 years later and it was once owned by some U.S. land agency.

All the delicas here are 4X4, need inspecting upon arrival before insuring and should be given a visual by the insurance broker.
It should be inspected in Japan before it's shipped. japan is far more stringent on rollover concerns than ICBC.

The customer is the Avid Delica enthusiast. I am just helping him import it. If we are talking Skylines and Supras then I know what and where to go for everything.

I have imported 20 cars last year and very familiar with the process once it lands.


the company is called http://heartland-japan.jp and they do alot of lifts. We both feel the car is in good hands getting it done.


I am still unaware of the detail the 400k gets me. I dont see shocks or springs in the included pictures, just alot of metal work and parts.


No the kit price does not include tires/wheels, maybe alignment.

The lift kit is not being imported from japan. it is being installing in japan since my customers car is still in japan. we both figured it would be a good idea to get some important things done to it and sourced there because help and parts are alot harder locally, well, specialty parts.
