My 1990 PW35 super exceeded has started to leak PS fluid from the rack and pinion. I am located in the USA and can't seem to find any parts. I managed to find a part number for the whole assembly (MB351852). Local dealership said it was going to cost $2500.00 USD plus tax and it wasn't even available. He said it would take some phone calls to even see if it was possible to order it. 30 days out at a minimum! So my question is, where should I go to find this part? Or perhaps a rebuild kit? Has anyone ever done a rebuild on one of these units? I used the search function, but didn't find any threads on it. Newby here, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Brian

Try also to contact Craig at Bonsai Rides in Ontario: he is parting out an L300.

Is the whole thing hooped or is it only a part? You can order on line, eh?
Go to the "Delica FAQ Section" in "Delica Canada Technical" on the board index. Look for "Useful Links for Vehicle Part Identification Purposes." When you get in there, you want to look for two links, one is "JDM Online Catalogue", the other is "partsbase.org/mitsubishi/jp/", with either of these links you can even order a specific washer. With the former you want to enter your Mitsubishi frame number, which will be P35W-XXXXXXX (seven numbers), into the Mitsubishi field and click enter. This will bring up the stock history of your wagon, however, there are no pictures, only OEM & PNC numbers. This is where the latter comes in handy because it has all the exploded views of all the parts and they are grouped in the same way the shop manual is. There are minor differences between the models so to be sure I'd recommend cross referencing the partsbase number (the one with the pictures) with the JDM Online numbers, which you know belong to your Starwagon, although ~ with the steering gear I'd imagine are all the stock parts are the same.
There are a few useful articles in the Delica FAQ Section worth reading, such as http://www.delica.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=2119. Another good starter read would be: ~Welcome to Delica Canada: Read This Before You Do Anything, in particular, the third paragraph. https://www.amayama.com/ is popular for purchasing parts. I was looking for a wheel bearing, at Mitsubishi Canada they wanted $70 each, Amayama has the good ones for $27Cdn. Hope this helps you out Bro.

Re: Steering woes, Leaking PS fluid
Thanks for the help Falco.
Has anyone done a rebuild on one of these with a kit? Are there any special tools required?

Re: Steering woes, Leaking PS fluid
As is mentioned in one of those links I posted, there are two technical reference Libraries, one for the L300, one for the L400. They both have PDF shop manuals. This is what you need to remember: The L300 manual is incomplete and also mixed with Pajero tech, the Pajero and Delica share much in common but not everything ~ you require your wits for this. The L400 manual is complete, in fact it has Space Gear stuff that we typically don't see over here ~ like cargo vans with drum brakes and leaf springs for the rear axle. I'm dealing with this now as I have a leaky seal. I've compared it to the exploded views in the partsbase link of the Starwagon rear axle ~ it's the same. When you look at the L400 rear axle manual, it explains the special tools. Again I must remind you to compare with what you know. Another thing to remember is "YouTube is your friend". Many informative vids on YouTube, some on Delicas. If you cannot find something done on a Mitsubishi L300 Delica Starwagon, look for other Japanese vehicles ~ the parts may not fit but often the procedure is the same. Also, the more you look through these vids you get to understand that although there many different kinds of cars out there, the principles are usually the same.
The steering manual in the L300 library I believe is for a Pajero. I've not had to deal with steering yet so I'm not familiar with the finer points of this subject. However, take a look at the L400 manual under steering and compare it with the partsbase exploded views and OEM numbers and see if they correlate. GrowlerBearNZ knows more than I, perhaps he'll have something to say.
Here're some vids I found on YouTube that is not quite what you're looking for at this moment but it's something that will come in handy before to long and it's also a good example of what you can fine when you look for it on YouTube:

P.S.: Now a little long wheel base bling from the Filipines:

Re: Steering woes, Leaking PS fluid
A leaking power steering rack is a bit unusual. I presume you've investigated the area and confirmed that the fluid is actually coming from the rack? There are some transmission fluid lines around that area that can leak, usually it's an old hose or loose hose clamp. Where exactly on the rack is the fluid leaking from? The power steering lines are sealed with o-rings, and if the fluid's coming from them it'll be an easy fix.
I've not actually rebuilt a power steering rack, but it seems to me there aren't too many places for fluid to leak from. The rebuild kit of all seals is part number MN103497 (replaces MB501026) and Amayama list it for CD$120 (or CD$160 if you go for genuine Mitsubishi).
Amayama also list MB351852 (complete steering rack) as available for CD$2388 (plus shipping) so the price you were quoted sounds about right. They also list a bunch of other parts avaialable separately.

Nothing says "poor workmanship" more than wrinkles in the duct tape.
Re: Steering woes, Leaking PS fluid
If you want to get on the road again in a reasonable length of time your best bet is a good used unit.
Call: Coombs Country Autos in Parksville ( Glen or Graham ) or
Rising Sun Autos in New Westminster ( Stephen or David )
both are refered to lots of times on this site , both have parted out L300's and both also have web sites
I'm sure they both ship to the states.

Re: Steering woes, Leaking PS fluid
Hi all! Before I post a new thread I wanted to jump in here and ask a couple questions.
I have a leaking drivers side seal on my steering rack. Squeezing the boot gushes oil.
I've searched the forum for 3 days and haven't found an answer.
Has anyone had success finding a seal kit for one side of the steering rack?
I think I saw a full kit somewhere in the JDM Catalogue but it was very pricey.
Would Lordco carry such a thing?
If I find it I'll post a nice write up on start to finish. :)
Thanks!
