yep like Mardy said....all in $300. Best money you could spend on these vans! Since having this service done I can't believe how good the van is running.

Mark,

For those of us that can't get to the Lower Mainland, it would probably be beneficial if you could recap all the things that were done in point form. I know that Mardy I think it was made a list in another post about all the items that needed to be done when you're doing your timing belt and that was great because I wouldn't have thought about the balance bearing.

If you made a list of all the things that need to be done for a proper tune up that we could print and pass on to a capable diesel mechanic who may not be familiar with the Delica but would none the less undertake this task in Calgary that would be much appreciated. As I need to order the parts in advance it would also ensure that I order all the parts that I'm going to need first time. Maybe also Mardy could chime in on what parts he'd recommend.

Hi, here is the the complete list when changing timing belt;
1.) timing belt 2 pcs
2.)2pcs bearing balance shaft & tensioner
3.) 4 seals . camshaft, cranckshaft, oil pump, tensioner seal
4.)new water pump ( Japan) as possible not rebuild
5.) thermosthat that fit right for delica, orig or replacement
6.) good max 70-30 anti freeze for diesel
7.) Change Valve cover gasket & adjust tappet
i do have all of this parts if any of you over in alberta need parts for your delica.
original & replacement (Japan) no made in china.
as per doing Deli tune:
its a mechanic trade , they have to know how to do it.
Sorry they just cannot just share it, as they have a shop to maintain.
you need to study & learn how to fix it.
they study hard & learn to fix it the hard way.
hope this answer your question:
if any one need beside this pls call me 604-720-6144 or e-mail me,
as i am more than happy to help delica member:
Cheers;
Mardy :M

Thanks Mardy, that's great!

Just to clarify, do both the timing belt and the balance bearing need tensioners?

I take your point about learning how to do it. That's why I'm thinking if I can get my Delica to the coast it would be better to do it there. However my Waterpump really likes to squeal whan it is started cold so I'm worried about it.

On the major tune up, do you recommend to replace the injectors and glow plugs?

hi, there is 2 belt on it ,timing belt & balance shaft belt,on delica.
then there is timing belt tensioner bearing & balance shaft bearing.
2 separate bearing. when you change all of this as its good to change at one time. never do short cut as you will re-doing it again,
then in this case you will be o.k. for another 85,000-90,000 kms for another change for timing belt, re-do the whole thing & you wont have any problem on the near future.
when tuning delica, its just need for now to clean the injector to put it the right spec how much fuel can go to the system , with this job you can get proper fuel for engine better performance for your deli.
just a daily tune to runs better. no need to change glow plug if its working good:
hope this help:

kumusta ka Mardy,

Now I understand, I was looking at the manual and they were talking about the 'B' Belt, and I couldn't figure out what the heck it was. What they are calling the 'B' Belt must be the balance shaft belt. Salamat!

I was just thinking, probably you'd add a new radiator cap to that list too.

Hi JMK, Get your baby to Butch at CVI in Richmond BC if you can, highly recommended for that InnerPeace. It's done once, it's done right, and you don't touch it again for many miles. Mardy Delica is our fantastic parts & info guy. They are 2 separate businesses but a magic combination.

((I wrote this before I saw the map, maybe Rocky Mountain House is a bit far away, oh well I will send it anyway .... take your vacation, welcome to stay in our spare room in Burnaby, & treat your Deli to the CVI spa)).

We had done stuff ourselves to learn "just in case", used local garage we know well -- trained them based on the manual & this website. I emailed Mardy to buy parts, he took us to CVI to put on hoist just for a look, but after watching the CVI guys work I allowed them to work on my baby. These guys are so-o-o- fast & precise & Caring.

Butch the CVI owner put my Tardis Deli up on the hoist, he & MardyDelica & the 2 of us jiggled everything -- Butch ensures we see & feel each part & compare to other Deli's in the shop to make decisions re replacing now or later.

One guys takes the fuel injector pump to his bench vice & quietly takes it apart layer by layer, a jillion tiny pieces that he knows exactly how each should feel and look, and rebuilds it confidently (fuel pump is the heart IMHO). Has a Sonic Cleaning machine for fuel injectors, so we didn't need to replace any.

Their shop rates are reasonable (in fact cheap if you consider the specialized knowledge included). Butch is very fluent by email & phone all along the way. Mardy got us a drivetrain part from his spare vehicle so we could get back on road without delay.

Thanks Mardy & Bruce, you both are superb.
I now drive with the radio on loud and sing even louder, no longer worry about listening in case the Deli wants to talk-grumble about its aches & pains -- The TardisDeli is happy.

Cheers, Christine of the TardisDeli :M

Don't forget the alignment makes a huge difference. Go the West Coast Alignment on Powell, ask for the "Mardy Special" -- they will all smile and tell you how Mardy spent a week training one of their guys to get all the Delica specs correct. Ron and his assistant get out the tape measure and tools, and check everything, while I watched through the glass shop door. Took 1 hour including Torsion bar adjustment (wind-up-down the torsion bar, measure, repeat) cost $109 plus tax.

The TardisDeli is much nimbler now, it leaps about in glee rather than dragging itself off at green lights.

Cheers, Christine of the TardisDeli. :M

Thanks Guys. As I had to replace the Tie Rod end for inspection, the alignment was just done locally. When I listen to that squealing water pump I wonder if it will make it to the Coast or if I'll be stuck on the Coquihalla looking at the tree where Green1 carved his initials when he got stuck there years ago.

To be fair I understand there are some other highly recommended shops around as well. Here's the ones that I get a sense of that have been highly recommended because of their specific knowledge of JDM vehicles and that I'd probably be comfortable with:

CVI in Richmond
Glen at CC Auto in Coombs
Pro Active Auto in Calgary

If anyone else can add to the list that would be great.

MardyDelica wrote:Hi, thats include ultra cleaning for your injector, its clean the gum & varnish of your injector & set it in the proper pressure as most of our delica were never been service in japan since new. as its expensive over to do this kind of service.
they do this one all the time in the phils as they own a shop specially for diesel injection pump service. they know what they doing, they are used to it with this type of diesel engine as we got lots of this jap. engine back home in the phils.
pls dont worry they do good job & with warrantty. ask our fellow delica owner who went there for service. result is happy & do a very good job for your delica & thats the most important thing.
pls dont worry;

Sounds good, I live at Cambie and #5 in Richmond so they are right next door! I will be getting the service very soon.

Anybody know if ccautos has a similar package? I would go to CVI but the ferry fee makes me want to find an island option
