Another Failure.

Post by DelicaTele »

Another shop to stay away from:

Ames Auto (edmonton) worse than Automotion.

Original work requested: oil change and installation of 2 batteries (included alternator adjustment).
Go to get vehicle and did not even make it 100ft. Ruined crankshaft pulley. Add another $800.

Go to get vehicle AGAIN. This time I made it 4-blocks; something heavy was dropped on rad hose mount. Result need new rad. Add another $700 (so far).

$1500 failed experiment (to try and find a competent shop).

Please, open your doors soon William =(

I heard shakey stories about AMES as well but not on JDM stuff.

So glad I can do most of my own work.

All the more reason we need a tighter Delica community in Alberta so these kinds of shops don't get our money!
Yeah I joined the Dark Side because the medical plan is top shelf!

One thing I have done is polish the motor before taking it in and then when they look at the motor, I look at them. This usually determines whether I feel comfortable with the mechanic. Otherwise, I think Big Bird makes a reasonable point ("So glad I can do most of my own work.").

Sorry to hear of your mishap, they are simple engines to work on and if a mechanic can't do the work efficiently then either they don't have the correct qualifications or they don't like you or the vehicle or both. I'd talk to them, man to man and ask for your money back, they didn't do the job, why should they get paid? I think they should also pay for the additional damages incurred in their shop. I don't think that is asking too much.
