Tires, Tires, tires...... Score!!!!
Supp folks,,
I recently got a sweeeeet deal on some new tires for my L300 from Crappy Tire!! Now I don't know much about tires so I thought I'd post on here what I got and see if some opinions come in.....
So they're Motomaster (Crappy Tires house brand) and they're all season. The specs are:
P225/75R15 102's. It also says M+S as well as AW. I know on my old VW Busses, they preferred light truck tires which I know theses are not. Maybe Delicas don't require a LT tire anyway??
I got these tires for $47.00 each which I couldn't refuse. I know they're not the best tires, but I'm hoping they'll do the job nicely for the price. If anyone cares to share thier own opinion/experience, I'd love to hear from you as this is the first set of tires I've had to purchase for my van.
Cheers, Phil

Nice score! Even if they don't last long, at that price who cares!

Yeah, thanks macro. I've been told they'll last a long time and are of great quality, I'm just curious if they are the right tire for this type of vehicle. But as you said, for the price, who cares......

235/75R15 is closest to stock. If you were to take two Starwagons, one with 235/75R15s and one with the original Japanese tyres (215SR15s) and drove them both at the same speed in a straight line for one hundred kilometres the 215/SR15s Delica would be fifteen feet further. The original Japanese tyres are narrower, more like pizza cutters but with a slightly larger circumference.
Regarding the sweet deal ~ I'd want to check where they were made and the date of manufacture. I've seen six month old Chinese made tyres completely cracked in the sidewall, which is extremely dangerous, especially if they decide to tear open as you're making a turn. As far as age goes ~ some people will try to sell off tyres that have never been used but are a few years old. What happens is because they have not been inflated or used they begin to delaminate. This is not necessarily apparent to the eye but can have catastrophic end results.
Having said all that, I got a sweet deal in 2010 where I picked up slightly used Yokos for $250.00 that lasted me close to five years. I'm not trying to dissuade you from a sweet deal ~ but "buyer beware", as it were.

Re: Tires, Tires, tires...... Score!!!!
Just attempted to respond with a rather long post (I'm a terribly slow typer) but it said an error occoured. Anyway, here's a short and sweet one hoping it works. The tires are made in China and I'm guessing they've probably been sitting around for a while due to the fact that they're an oddball size in today's market...?.. I'm also guessing there'll be a date code stamped on them somewhere...?.
I always appreciate your advice Falco. I'm gonna have my mechanic give them a good once over before I install them. I had a tire blow on an old VW Bus while driving down the interstate years ago. Scary times indeed

I get that.... I put together my manifesto of a post and click.... I need to re-log in and everything that I wrote is gone, gone, gone. Now if I've taken a while to compose a post I select and highlight all that I have written; control C; then I hit submit. If I got logged out or whatever, I have it on the temporary memory and when I get back to where I was I click control V and there is my work.
Regarding the age of the tyre: There should be an indentation in the sidewall, next to the rim. It should look like a little tray about half inch wide and twoish inches long with four numbers in it (sometimes there is a letter with it). The first two numbers are the year of manufacture, the second two numbers are the week; i.e., "0943"= the 43rd week of 2009, "1432"= the 32nd week of 2014. Would be interested to know what is on these tyres.

Re: Tires, Tires, tires...... Score!!!!
as far as tires go, DO YOUR HOMEWORK!!!!! I got burned on a set of so called amazing tires from a certain kal tire in Vernon bc a few years back. $1,300 for a set of yokahama ats. I got 11,000km out of the set. found out later the chump at kal tire sold me a set of 265/70/17 .....passenger rated 4ply garbage. spend some time reading reviews from tire rack, look for tire reviews in various 4x4 mags (ie 4x4 garage, petersens 4wheel& off road, 4WD Canada, JP magazine etc) I know JP is for jeeps but remember they too need good tires for fun just like us. all this might sound dull and mundane but from my experience, calling out a scam artist outfits on garbage such as my experinece with that certain kal tire in Vernon bc when you are better educated on tires feels pretty dam good (the chump from kal tire lost his job over this too long story short)
Things to look for are what are you ACTUALLY going to be driving in? If you never leave pavement, don't get mud tires. If you want to go in the mud on weekends camping etc, go with a decent AT (all terrain) tire. you never leave mud and dirt, stick with a decent mud tire. and last thing I feel obliged to say is.....ALL TERRIAN AND ALL SEASON ARE NO WHERE NEAR THE SAME SHIT DIFFERNT PILE SCENIRO!!!!
rant done, good day.

Wow.... I hope you've had better luck with your tires since the Kal Tire incident:) I have a few mechanic friends that say one of the best things Canadian Tire offers is actually tires, both for quality and value. I'm going to attempt to find those codes Falco, and I'll post my findings (whatever they are) when I do. I was always fascinated with the 60's, even though I wasn't even born then. Let's hope these babies are not of that vintage.....

Re: Tires, Tires, tires...... Score!!!!
Alright, so this just in.... I don't think I see a set of numbers that would specify a year or date of manufacture. There's a set of numbers close to the rim, 05-2213-2. Max load for these is 35 PSI at 1874 LBS. It also says Tread Plies 2 Steel + 2 Polyester, Sidewall Plies 2 Polyester.......
And that's about it. Cheers

Re: Tires, Tires, tires...... Score!!!!
.....sounds like P rated tires/passenger rated tires and 2 ply tires. IMO I would replace them asap, that's the rough equivalent of those cheap 13 inch "spare tire" if you don't get the full size spare. yes 250 bucks for new rubber out the door is a good deal, however this is a case of you get what you pay for.
I am by no means a tire tech but since the kal tire incident I have defiantly done my homework. also comes in handy if you see your tire size in used tires with decent amount of tread left on kijiji etc.
anyways hope this helps. keep er between the ditches ;)

Yeah, I hear what your saying. When I read 2 ply I thought great, if iwe're talking about bathroom tissue......
But like yourself, I'm no expert. I also didn't like seeing the letter P for passenger, and that's because of my experience with VW Busses where it was always best to have Light Truck Tires installed. I'm going to see what I have on my van now. I think they're quite budget too....... DAMN!!!
Cheers, Phil
