No rear lights and dashboard lights. Horn fuse break.

Post by yuts44 »

Hello,

We are in New-Zealand, we are french so sorry for this no perfect english.
We have bought a van (Mitsubishi Delica L300 - 1991).

We have an electric problem since one week ago.
When I put the light, the HORN fuse break... And no rear light, no horn.

On the back of the HORN fuse there are 2 cables, when I disconnect the green/white cable, I can use the light without break the HORN fuse ...

It's weird because it worked before ... So it's a problem with the green/white cable ?

I have no fuse in the REAR LIGHT fuse ... You can look my fuse box in attachment.

I tried to look others topics but no solutions ...
http://www.delica.ca/forum/dash-lights- ... 15652.html

Where are the fuses in the battery bay ?
All the others lights work !! Even the stop lights.

If you can help us, it will be very nice !

Thanks in advance

Joanna & Marco

I've read on here through several posts that the headlight combination switch can be an issue on the L300 vans. When it goes, usually the dash lights & the tail lights stop working. I have this problem with mine, however if I wiggle the switch, everything comes on and starts working again.

I know that a new combo switch is very $$$$$, but they are still available. You can also fix your old switch too. There are detailed instructions with photos on here if you do a search for it. If I recall Christine and Jay from the Tardis Deli posted something quite excellent on this topic a few years back.

Good luck with your van :)

I don't think it's your combo switch. I'm thinking it's either a fusible link or a burnt out plastic connector, both in the battery bay. I had this happen to me six years ago. There is another thread that is current that appears to be the same issue. OverlanderJay (site electrical guru) has posted in this thread and might be worth the peruse: http://www.delica.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=16620

Hope this helps,
Falco.

Hello,

I can't see the 2 white connectors in the battery bay ?
I took a picture of all the connectors I can find (on the first post).

Thanks a lot

They're not actually "white" per se, especially considering how old they are. Did you read OverlanderJay's post? Check around the battery bay for loose or burnt connexions.

With the combo switch it would be the headlamps, running lamps (including instrument cluster) or wipers only. Things like the horn or brake lamps are not related to the combo switch.

Thanks,

Yes i've red his post.
I've looked in the battery bay, but no burn or damaged connectors/wires ... You can see the connectors on my pictures on the 1st post. It looks good.

Maybe i didn't find the "good" connectors ?

When i bought this van, the car-radio was not connected. I connected it and maybe it's its faulse ? I will try to disconnect the car-radio for look if the rearlight / horn will work or not ;)

Hello,

I ve fixed the problem.
It was the faulse of the ground's car-radio.
It had a wire green/white connecter at the ground of the car-radio...

So i ve connected the ground on a other metal part and now everything it's Okey !!!
The dashboard, the rearlight, the horn and the Stereo work!!

So Thank you so much for all your Help !!
Now i have to change the motor's oil If there is a tutorial on the forum :)

Bye

Wow, that's interesting faulty ground on the stereo. Thanks for posting the result, that's a good one to know.

Falco.
P.S.: Regarding the oil change, if you have a diesel Starwagon it's 6.5 litres with a new filter.

Marco's problem was that he thought the green wire with the white stripe was a ground wire ,when in fact its the power wire for the dash lights/tail lights/running lights/stereo light so poof goes the fuse when he would turn on the headlight switch, which also killed the horn because its on the same fuse. cheers Jay

Not sure how many litres in the petrol motor. What you need to do is go to the L300 Dedicated Category Reference Forum, in Delica Canada Technical and look for the shop manuals and figure out which petrol motor you have and see what the manual says. For the filter I'd imagine you could go to the local Mitsubishi dealer and ask them, since you're in Nouvelle-Zélande. 8-)
