Hi!
I've seen quite a few great looking receiver hitches / tow hitches on this site, it looks as if tey were all pretty sturdy...
Over here in Germany we only have the odd towbars, nothing special, nothing rigid, nothing rugged.
In the 4x4travel.org forum, the question came up, how to put some extra load on the back of the van, so could you maybe post some pictures of how thoose hitches are mounted on the van?
Also, whats the load rating or tow capacity of thoose hitches?
Cheers from across the ocean
Will

E&H Hitch in Burnaby installed mine, so I really can't say exactly how they're installed, but I was told the towing capacity was 4000lbs

Re: L300 - How are your hitches mounted??
I went to E&H Hitch, they are good and I spent less than $600.00 Cdn, all told. I had some custom pieces added, which is why I spent that much. Freaky, however, lives in New Zealand, which is a far cry from Burnaby. Not sure what to say, man ~ I would say when you find a good hitch company in New Zealand ~ get a bolt on set up rather than a weld on. Considering the monocoque design of the Starwagon, I think the bolt on application would fair better.

Hi freaky
This should answer most of your questions.
http://www.delica.ca/forum/trailer-hitch-1129.html
My trailer hitch was rated 5K pounds towing and 500 pounds tongue weight. It was off a Toyota Tacoma truck and modified to fit my L400 by a certified welder. Bolt to the bumper bolts and the "frame" bolt holes.
PM me and I can send pics of the attachment points.
good luck

Hey!
I just updated my profile, I'm already back in Germany since may
In between I bought an L300 4x4 2.5l 4d56T in Australia and went right through the red center from east to west...
Great adventure!
@thelazygreenfox
@lrp374
That's what I was looking for - great help indeed!
Over here in europe, it's illegal to weld to che chassis anyway, so bolt on is the only option...
Cheers,
Will

Re: L300 - How are your hitches mounted??
just a heads up on weld on hitches. I worked in the RV industry for quite a few years before getting into building homes and if I am not mistaken, it is now illegal (has been for a few years) to weld on any rear hitches to any vehicle, they are to be bolted through the frame using grade 8 bolts and good luck on finding a shop to piece a hitch system together for you due to severe legal repercussions if it is ever in an accident. there is a reason hitches are made and designed vehicle specific, whether we agree with it or not.FalcoColumbarius wrote:I went to E&H Hitch, they are good and I spent less than $600.00 Cdn, all told. I am not saying you cant jerry rig something together and weld it on but seriously why risk it??
I just don't to hear about anyone getting severely hurt due to welded on/poorly installed hitches. remember, trailers and hitches may seem harmless when they are parked somewhere but in a collision at highway speeds it is an entirely different and scary story.
hope this helps.
