Oil Filter Numbers for an L400

I hear 6" long and good girth is a decent start. Anything shorter might not provide proper duty cycle. With good liquid flow pumping through it tends to require more "servicing" and risk leaking if too much pressure is applied... A tight adjacent seal unit will ease the interval change of fluid. It's a simple fact of proper lubrification, simple really. Overweight unit will certainly shorten the life expectancy of these items...

all this talk about size and cooling pressure from the administration and corporate sales is making me feel inadequately inadequate. I have two filters and they are small. Should I increase the girth? Maybe I should substitute girth for length. I'll ask the ladies.

Here is a picture of the difference in size between the Donaldson that is recommended for our vehicles and the Sure Filter that Mardy sells. I bought one just to see the difference.

I have decided that I am just going to stick with the Sure Filters. Cost and performance wise they can't be beat IMHO. So... any of you Paj owners here in Edmonton want to trade me some beer for a Donaldson filter?

Anyone know if the Fleetguard FL387 filter is a good cross reference.

I get my filters from Western Star Trucking that used to be a Fuso dealer and was originally getting the MEO88532 for about $23. The new ME228898 (same filter new number) is now in the $40 range.

The Fleet Guard (Cummins really) is about$25 from Western Star and they have it as a cross reference, but it is nice to be certain with these things.

OK it is actually a Fleetguard LF 3817 that I was wondering about. Picked one up for about $29 total (in Alberta) as opposed to the Fuso ME 088532 that it should replace (says so right on the box so I hope this is good) that was costing about $45.

Used to get the same Fuso filter # ME 228889 for $23 from the same place. Hope this may help someone and at my next oil change I will let you know if it does indeed work.

Hey guys,

Just about to do my first oil change on my new van - a '98 Series II L400. Lordco sold me a Fram PH8936 but from what I read in this thread I'm getting the indication that it might actually be for an L300. Anyone know the definitive filter type/number to ask for with my van if I walked in there today? Also, it appears you need to remove a 1 or 2 piece skid plate to do the oil change. I assume that's correct? Any help would be awesome!!

I use Fram PH9055 on my L400. You may have gotten the wrong part.

So the Baldwin BD7095 is fine to use for the 4M40..

they are $17 on Amazon.com.. so thats pretty reasonable.

Bumping this cause I just realized I've put on 5000km after two trips to Bc and back and now need to do another oil change. I used the Donaldson filter last time, and noticed some leaking around the seal and tightened up the filter again by hand (I think it worked itself loose) I switched to full synthetic Rotella T6, what are you synthetic guys going with for a change interval? Every 5000km or longer

The van came with a sakura filter from RSI, which is bigger then the Donaldson

I do every 5000km or 3 months (5000km is usually first). For me, I do a lot of city driving and highway driving so I figure it's cheap insurance on engine life. I use an app called Road Trip to help me keep track of everything, you can set reminders and whatnot.

I would guess if you do mostly long distance highway trips the oil lasts longer. I have no basis for that opinion though, just my own thoughts.
