Hi Delica family,
just wondering if anybody could help spread some insight into my starting issues.
After leaving the van parked for the winter, with a friend firing it up every month or so (with no problems, i'm now back and after replacing the battery still cant get the van to even turn over. It makes its normal two clicking noises, then as i turn the key, i get just one more click and nothing else (sounds like a relay or something)
In the past i think i may have been experiencing problems with my neutral safety switch, as it sometimes didn't like to start in park but preferred neutral or vice-versa.
Is there any way i can confirm it is indeed the neutral safety switch before resigning to waiting and ordering a new part - when it might be something else?
or any way i can just get it to turn over?
I read here about bypassing it http://www.delica.ca/forum/bypass-neutr ... tml#p54084 - would you recommend giving it a try?

Often if it's the switch, holding the key in start position and moving the shifter in and out of neutral will make intermittent contact.

Make sure all the battery contacts are clean and tight. Make sure this is true for the starter and alternator as well. Winter fun!

Re: Cold start issue - one click and not turning over?
thanks for the reply.
I just tried juggling the shifter between gears while turning the key, and also tried cleaning up all terminals but with no luck.
SO... i also tried bypassing the neutral switch per the link above, and for some strange reason after testing with a multimeater both wires are already apparently connected, and randomly the housing of the neutral safety switch i too. maybe some wierd frozen moisture shorting everything out??
no luck
what to try next? ideas?

I would check your fusible links for continuity. Also try applying power directly to the solenoid to see if the problem isn't at the starter. Also check to see if 12v is getting that far. It's a very basic circuit so fining out where the power is being lost shouldn't be too much a problem.
