Injection pump

So, my IP has always been abit wet and leaky but lately is seems worse.. to the point where it's affecting my fuel mileage. I just drove Saskatoon to Winnipeg on a warm day (-7) with a tailwind and only got a terrible 13 L/100km. I figure I should'a at least gotten 10 on that drive.

It's always wet on that side but it doesnt seem to leak enough to drip, even with the engine running it does't drip out. I cranked the idle to 3000rpm and it STILL doesn't seem to drip. It must only burp out when the engine is under a load.. and it must REALLY burp out then 'cause it seems like I can almost watch that needle move on the highway.

Anyways, I'm just starting to do some research on parts and prices. I know this sucker is a complicated piece of metal, so I guess my question is whether I should just get a gasket kit (which is super cheap), or get a new pump (big bucks)?.

Looking for any first-hand experiences.

Also realize that the colder weather will always affect your fuel mileage.
Winter fuel taken into account remember if your van motor isn't warm
enough it won't burn the diesel efficiently.

My friend's surf IP pump leakage is worse in the winter as well.
I'm sure it has something to do with the cold, seals and santa claus.

When I had my IP pump done I was amazed at the difference in
power actually.

I got the pump from RSI and had Jason in MB do the work.
Im not sure if he's still doing work at the moment. Haven't
heard anything from him in ages.

Yep.. I always take that into account. That's why I mentioned how warm it was plus a tailwind.. I would have expected that kind of mileage when it is way colder. Also, I was on the highway so the motor was at it's optimal temp the whole time.

I've emailed Jason awhile ago about some work but I never received a reply, which was weird since he always sent a reply for any of my dumbass questions. Hope he's alright.. seemed like a good guy.
Was there a lot of adjustments to be made to the new IP? or was it a bolt on, fire-her-up kinda thing?

Once it was in it the timing had to be set.
Then get rid of all the air in the system.

get the IP rebuilt and recalibrated.
I had my done by CCA last august, and my van drives like new now.
my fuel mileage is amazing now. I've saved $$$.

trust me, its' worth the money.

Hold on; before you drop a grand into rebuilding your pump, figure out where the leak is coming from. If it seems to be coming from the joint between the pump body and the upper cover, that's a fast and inexpensive repair. I did mine in an hour. You don't have to pull the pump and everything is easily reached. Do a search on here and you'll find instructions. The rubber seal was just a few bucks.
