snapped throttle cable

snapped throttle cable
hey guys. I'm from Tasmania in Australia! You guys have an awesome forum , can't find much help so am hoping someone can help me. I own a 1989 2.4l turbo diesel automatic delica and have just snapped my throttle cable wondering if anyone knows about taking one out and replacing it. Not sure if I have to remove the Kick down cable to the transmission as well?

Hi Taz,
What are you driving? Space Gears didn't come out until 1994, your profile says you drive an '89. Either way the kick down cable is a separate entity from the throttle cable. I can't see why if one broke you'd need to replace the other?

hey falco,
Says (spacegear) on my registration but Exceed on the side of the van! Do you know if it would be a hard job, Mechanic is going to charge quite a bit but i've been told might not be too hard, pretty confident I can do it just don't have a repair manual or diagrams.

Right, it's a Starwagon. I've never done the job but I'll tell you what I'll do: I'll move this thread to L300 Tech and see what the other Starwagon drivers say... smiles.

if it were me, I would look at just replacing the inner cable rather than the whole shebang. If you go to any motorcycle shop, they will have replacement cable with the ends that either get soldered on on crimped on. you take them both pieces of your broken cable and they should be able to make you a replacement. you slide it in and solder on the new end. A lot easier than pulling the whole thing. The only caveat is if the cable sheath is worn through some area, so take a good look, but in most cases you only have to replace the inner cable.

I replaced my throttle cable recently. Very simple took maybe 30 minutes. Mine was cut from the outside and was replaced with a cable off my parts van. The cable goes in to the transmission on the left side and needs to be traced back to the gauge pod.
Almost not worth it if you didn't have the part, if you don't my driving on GPS speed or without.
