L400 Bearing specifications?

Post by northriver »

Hi,

I need to replace the front right wheel bearing on my L400 (bearings as I gather there is an inner and outer bearing on the front wheels).

I tracked down the bearing size in the shop manual available on the Delica.ca site, but unless I missed out there is no part number specified (see the image below).

I have also not managed to track down part numbers for these bearings that anybody has mentioned in a post to delica.ca, although I am guessing somebody has already.

Can anybody point me in the right direction for part numbers for these two bearings and the associated seal?

Thanks,

Chris

Sorry, I can't help you with part numbers, but try posting on the Delica Canada Facebook page for a better chance of getting an answer.

Go to the Delica FAQ Section in Delica Canada Technical. Click on "Useful Links for Vehicle Part Identification Purposes." Scroll down to the post regarding the JDM Online Catalogue and follow the directions. You will find the OEM number for every stock part on your Space Gear, amongst other things.

Got a private email reply with the following information:

inner bearing MR112242
outer bearing MB092749
oil seal MB922062

I will start with these numbers.

Thanks,

Chris

I have identified the front bearing set for my Mistubishi L400 as follows:
1x inner bearing MR112242 (crosses to Timken Part Number: NP626468-NP962387)
1x outer bearing MB092749 (Timken Part Number: LM102949-LM102910)
1x oil seal MB922062

BC Bearing and Lordco can supply the outer bearing listed based on the Timken part number, but nobody seems to have a cross for the inner bearing MR112242.

I have only been able to track down the full set of bearings from a company on the lower mainland that imports OEM parts from Japan. Their price for the MB092749 is $85.00 as opposed to $27.63 from BC Bearing for the Timken match (Timken Part Number: LM102949-LM102910).

Does anybody know a North American part match for the inner bearing (MR112242)?

As a dumb question, how do you do those cross references? Call lordco and if they have the part in their computer they can tell you something aftermarket that's the same?

That is how I started ...

Lordco and Napa were not able to identify the one bearing (MR112242) or cross it to an equivalent that they stocked. A few guys told me that it was not a valid part number as it did not show up in their system.

I figured out that if you google the part number (e.g. MR112242) you will eventually be able to identify the Timken or Koyo match (most vehicle bearings seem to be made by one of these two companies?). It turns out that the MR112242 bearing is made exclusively for Mitsubishi, which is why it is not in the parts books of North American distributors (I guess this bearing is not used in any Mitsubishi models sold in North America).

Most of the companies that import Delicas into Canada seem to stock both of the bearings and the oil seal; prices vary widely. I was quoted a high of $218.40 for the set of three parts and a low of approximately $110.00 (this last price includes the shipping to me north of Kamloops via Canada Post while the first price does not). Some but not all of this price difference is the difference between quoting a non-OEM (as opposed to OEM) bearing when a substitute was available.

I went with the lowest price and expect to get the bearings some time (hopefully early) next week. The company I ordered from:

Awesome, thanks for the info! Two thumbs up for RMI. John always answers my stupid questions and has good prices. I get 99% of my parts from there also.

There's a 3rd bearing in that area. Its a small roller type that supports the outer stub on the CV axle inside the spindle. These can get gummed up with grit when the inner seal fails.

They can cause vibration problems as well and often get overlooked when a person repacks or even replaces the bearings for the rotor hub because the CV axle does not always get removed in a repack job.

Thanks for the information ... I am one of those who overlooked this third bearing ... by the time I saw your post the bearings were already ordered and I wanted the new bearings in before we took a long trip (just got back from the West Coast Trail).

The bearing change was fairly straight forward ... I am guessing it took a couple of hours. The most frustrating part of the job was setting the torque properly ... sure would love to get my hands on the special tool mentioned in the Delica Shop Manual! There was still grease in the bearings, but it was looking pretty pretty old.

Trip to the West Coast trail was awesome and the Delica performed really well. This is the most I have used it on logging roads; we dropped everybody off at the north end of the trail, I drove to the south end of the trail on logging roads and took the shuttle bus back to the north end. The only downside to the experience was getting a flat tire on a logging road ... the roads were in pretty bad shape.

Made the whole trip from Kamloops to Vancouver Island on WVO; started with a full tank of diesel and finished the trip at around 3/4 of a tank ... pretty economical. Now if someone would only come up with a boat conversion kit for the Delica and I could cut the ferry costs ... :-D

Can you explain further where this 3rd bearing is? I only see two on the assembly explosion:
