Thanks for the information ... I am one of those who overlooked this third bearing ... by the time I saw your post the bearings were already ordered and I wanted the new bearings in before we took a long trip (just got back from the West Coast Trail).
The bearing change was fairly straight forward ... I am guessing it took a couple of hours. The most frustrating part of the job was setting the torque properly ... sure would love to get my hands on the special tool mentioned in the Delica Shop Manual! There was still grease in the bearings, but it was looking pretty pretty old.
Trip to the West Coast trail was awesome and the Delica performed really well. This is the most I have used it on logging roads; we dropped everybody off at the north end of the trail, I drove to the south end of the trail on logging roads and took the shuttle bus back to the north end. The only downside to the experience was getting a flat tire on a logging road ... the roads were in pretty bad shape.
Made the whole trip from Kamloops to Vancouver Island on WVO; started with a full tank of diesel and finished the trip at around 3/4 of a tank ... pretty economical. Now if someone would only come up with a boat conversion kit for the Delica and I could cut the ferry costs ...
