I have a leaking rear axle seal. I dismantled it only to find the pressed on retainer or "0-ring" obviously holding the bearing in place, with no method of removing it and I suppose the bearing too.
I dropped the van off at my local guy and he cannot seem to source this retainer. I know that the parts are identical to 1988 Montero buy he still can't source this part.
The Wiki and L300 Technical are lacking in this and I've pulled teeth getting part numbers, with little luck. There is no Lordco in Alberta- we have NAPA and actually Can Tire has bearings/seals listed, but no "retainer/o-ring" anywhere.
My Mechanic is not happy as the van's apart taking up a bay and he doesnt want to charge me to put it back together without fixing it!
Any help greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Erik

Re: Axle bearing woes
There is five thickness of snap ring identified by colors.They are available to any Mitsubishi dealer or Dodge dealer.Check for Dodge Ram 50 or Dodge raider.
2.17mm=no colour
2.01mm=yellow
1.85mm=blue
1.69mm=purple
1.53mm=red
If the oil was leaking from the little hole in the center of the axle shaft,you can just change the seal in the axle housing,the little one..There is two seal.A little one and a taller.The taller is for the wheel bearing grease.
The little one is for the differential oil.The little is easier to change.No need to remove the bearing or the snap ring you talking about.
Good luck.

Re: Axle bearing woes
Thanks again. I had unfortunately left it in the hands of a mechanic (not my Delica guy) who proceeded to bum-rape me by not being able to identify that factStrada 92 wrote: If the oil was leaking from the little hole in the center of the axle shaft,you can just change the seal in the axle housing,the little one..The little one is for the differential oil.The little is easier to change.No need to remove the bearing or the snap ring you talking about.

If I had a brain I would have been into it for about 20$.
Lesson learned.
