Work vehicle? Is a Delica a workable option?

Post by klutzo »

First time poster, and long time lurker. =>

I've been seeing the Delis for many years now, always wondered what they are, but always thought the L400 Spacegears looked pretty damn awesome. I recall reading a post previously saying that the fella was looking for something like an Odessey, or a Sienna, but with a bit more cool factor. The only van the fam has had was an ol beatup 1990 Dodge Caravan. We rented a newer Caravan a couple of years ago, and the kids ate it up like Skittles.

Ok, so much for my short preamble! LOL. Long and short of it is, we'll be looking for a work vehicle to do about 2-3 trips a week around town. I'm curious if anyone on the forum uses a Deli for a work vehicle that's a skilled tradesperson, contractor, realtor, etc. We do corporate video work and would love to get a custom advertising wrap with our company logo on a set of wheels that's eye catching. It can store the kids when not in use for work, and also can haul lots of tripods, video gear, jibs, dollys etc. when on duty. Of course one of the big things will be a decal on each door stating that "no equipment is stored in vehicle". =>

I understand that these are japanese import vehicles, and around the GVRD there are at least a fair amount of shops that will do maintenance and service which is good. They are also 15 years old +, so can appreciate that they will need a bit more time in the shop than a new Civic. Heh.

Thanks in advance for any feedback, and will continue to read the deli can forums!

I think a Delica sounds perfect for you. A Spacegear is a good choice since it has a bit more power for hauling things around but I have an L300 and work as a contractor and have no trouble using it as a daily work vehicle. I even pull a 10X6X6 trailer around on occasion.

There's a guy in Winnipeg that does masonry that has a starwagon... he's had it for at least 5 years, and it's doing him well!

Had my L-300 for 5 years and use it for my gardening work truck. I have a utility trailer that I drag everyday too - heaps happy with the setup.

Painter. P25W, excellent wagon for getting in and out of various job sites with tonnes of space for gear and materials. I see more tradesmen turning up on sites in Starwagons, some I know. I haven't as of yet seen a Space Gear at a site but I know Rik has one... but he's a carp... grins.

My Jasper is a SpaceGear. I haul my tools in it, pull both a utility trailer and a tent trailer (approx. 1800 kg towing cap). Lots of power and room. The PD8W low roof gets me into underground parkades too.
