Ok, We have moved stretches engine into the new Delica. It ran when I parked it, now, other than a very rare and occasional very weak attempt at firing we get nothing. Even with engine starter.
We have air, we have fuel, it appears the glow plugs work but we nothing,,,does anyone have any ideas????????
THX in advance...

Re: We're totally stumped
confirm glow plugs, cold start advance if equipped, engine ground strap, and 12v power to the stop solenoid(and solenoid function).
where do you have fuel? at the IP pump or flow at the actual injector if you crack the injector line from the injecor?

Will have a look at the grounding strap, fuel checked at injectors..rezdiver wrote:confirm glow plugs, cold start advance if equipped, engine ground strap, and 12v power to the stop solenoid(and solenoid function).

Re: We're totally stumped
If the engine is turning well, and there is fuel at the injector union, either the glow plugs aren't hot enough to cause combustion, or the fuel isnt going through the injectors, maybe because there is still air in the system and its compressing it rather than cracking the injectors. Oddly a user on the UK site has a similar issue at the minute.
I would check for bubbles in the fuel line with a clear hose, or a see through gasoline style inline filter.

Re: We're totally stumped
stop solenoid is what stops the fuel from getting from your IP to the Injectors and is what shuts down the vehicle when you disconnect power to it when you turn the key off.
sometimes poor connection can leave it closed and no fuel will be pushed into the injector lines from the IP.
should be about mid point on the side of the injector pump right above where the injector lines come out of the pump. it gets 12v power and grounds through the solenoid body to the engine, that is why i mentioned the ground strap. if you have flow then i suspect its working.
lots of fuel at injectors or just a drip when you cracked the lines? make sure you crack all 4 lines and not just one to relieve as much air and get fuel flowing through them all. crack all 4 and crank the engine till you get fuel coming out of all of them.

Re: We're totally stumped
At this point (the starting sequence), electricity is your weakest link on a diesel engine. As stated above: ensure proper grounding, glow circuit is correct, and stop solenoid is disengaging correctly.
Considering you've completely replaced the power plant, I would suggest grounding first. Not sure how many grounding points the 4D56 engine has or where they are situated, but whatever you've chosen will very likely be different (on both points).
Good luck.
