Whistler living has just gotten wayyy better!

Post by whistlerjake »

Hey all!

My name's Jake and I finally splurged on a 94 L400 royal exceed LWB w 153k kms! What a beast!! Picked her up from Nanaimo and couldn't be more excited to get working on her as there are a few big items that need attention. I would really appreciate any feedback or suggestions from you deli veterans as I head into unknown waters here..

Body and interior is pretty mint. She's got a 2" lift which puts her at about 6'11"!! Fun looking down on big trucks.

Without a working timing computer she starts pretty rough. Previous owner installed a push button glow plug heater which definitely helps so I'll just deal with it that way for the time being as there are some more pressing issues to sort out.....

- The turbo is offline which was evident right away. Low steady power and couldn't hear it spool.. Hopefully it can be rebuilt otherwise I need to buy a new one.

Need new front shocks. and I hear I have to go through a specialty Deli dealers for this and not lordco, can someone confirm ?

Passenger/driver windows are super finicky, I'll probably need a set of new motors..

Its running just the one battery right now but theres a nice big pocket to make way for the dual setup. I wonder if I'll need a new alternator to make the upgrade..

I should probably wait for the turbo fix to get out and after some fun adventures but I'm really dying to get mudding/camping!!! :)

Looking forward to being a part of the deli community! These things are too cool

Cheers!
Jake

welcome Jake

give me a shout. I can help you with your list.

My family's in whistler and driving around in the blue/silver Chamonix so we will likely meet up sooner or later.

Les is driving around in a LWB Royal like yours as well. He's running grease from southside.

There's two other L400's that live in whistler creekside.

Cheers

Welcome.

If you have, and still want, the adjustable shocks, they yes, they ain't cheap and they're only available out of Germany. Pro Comp seems to be a popular selection amongst the herd here, you just have to decide whether you want pneumatic or hydraulic ones.

If you have the installed-it-myself-pushbutton-glow-plug-timer-control-switch that usually means the last person didn't spend the money to buy the proper glow plugs. As I've said elsewhere on this forum, I think Mitsubishi re-engineered the glow plug circuitry in these vehicles (Delicas and Pajeros) every time an engineer farted or his pencil ran out of lead (whichever happened first). Regardless, it almost always comes down to buying the correct glow plugs, and sometimes that means buying genuine Mitsubishi ones (which can be expennnnnnnnsive).

If your turbo is dead, you'll really want to get that fixed. The turbo kicks in pretty early on these diesels (from what I understand as it was explained to me), so if you're lugging it off the line, it's probably already pooched. Fix it before it disintegrates and sends little metal bits into your engine (afterwhich you'll need more than a turbo).

Cheers Jesse! I was checkin out Les' Deli in front of Southside just the other day! I will keep my eyes open for your ride. Or we should just meet up and introduce ourselves that way..

Mararmeisto, thanks! Ya, I'll probably be fine with just the pro comps for what I'll be doing .. Though I took it up Paradise Valley this past weekend and onto some pretty rough roads... had a blast watching the thing casually walk up some of those pitches. Makes me want to get it all rigged up for some more gnarly routes but let's focus on the turbo first.

After reading your comment on fixing the turbo ASAP, I'm worried that some of the damage may already be done. The guy I bought it off of didn't even know it was pooched!! Got behind the wheel and immediately commented on that fact but buddy just reassured me that the (lack of) power was normal and that the turbo didn't spool noticeably loud.. Took it to the shop where they confirmed it. Buddy was pretty choked. So it's been running as is for some time now..
