Matching Paint (what colour code do I need??)

Post by shealy »

I'm looking to get a matched (or as close as possible) paint colour for my drivers side door. I have a few rust patches I'm going to deal with in the next few days, and would like the area to match as close as possible after I fix and re-paint it. I've done some looking on this forum, and I think I'll get the paint code and hit up Lordco for a aerosol can of "matching paint".

My question is this: what code do I need to bring in for them to do the match? I've looked at the panel under my driver seat, and using the L300 Vehicle Identification topic (http://www.delica.ca/forum/l300-vehicle ... =seat+code) I've come up with two paint codes it seems. My "exterior code" is G7SK and my "color int" is G98S22. I'm guessing color int is interior colour? However, the mitsubishi paint colours forum (http://www.delica.ca/forum/mitsubishi-p ... paint+code) seems to point towards this second code making more sense.... If I'm reading that right, the colour is G98 MZ101893 AC10998 SAINTO AMOUR GREEN. (which seems to make sense, seeing as my van is green)

Does this sound right? And what of this information do I need to bring in to get the paint matched? Thanks!

White & Peters have the formulas for the Delica Paint Codes. Give them the codes from the plate between your legs (driver side), under the carpet flap ~ they will tell you which one it is and also make the paint for you, at least they did so for me. The White & Peters I went to is on Pemberton Avenue in North Van.

Great, although that place is a bit out of my way! Could I not take any codes to a place like Lordco and have it matched (for convenience sake)? If not, I'll have to make a trip to North Van, Cheers!

Your local Lordco should have digital scanner thingy to make a paint match.

Just a caution, from a painter ~ digital scans are rarely accurate, they tend to go a little dark from the start. Local paint stores that I go to tend to take scans and lighten them back and finish the match by eye.

There are other White & Peters branches, North Van is the one that I went to, which was successful.

I did a paint code match and it was a darker richer colour , which makes sense on a 16 yr old van, then I had Lordco do a scan and it was spot on.

Great tips for those on the west coast. I am in Calgary and need to touch up some paint on my van.

I found the codes, I think they are the same as the OP's codes. I have the dark gree/tan Delica.

I checked the big cross reference list but nothing is listed for G98S22

Any other suggestions?

I don't think that White & Peters get a lot of call for Delica Colours per se, I think they are plugged into a world wide catalogue for vehicle colours. Have you tried looking for auto paint suppliers in Calgary? I would think that they, too would have this feature available. Have you tried Napa for touch-up matches? I came across a web page called Calgary Select, might be helpful :-) .

Hey- Look here:
http://forums.jdmvip.com/Canadian_Autom ... ion-4529-t

Someone on JDM found a great shop in Edmonton for matching JDM paints. Maybe they have a location in Calgary, or if not, you can make a road trip!

Thanks for the tips guys! :-D

I am mainly looking for the tan color for the bottom trim, the front is starting to rust a bit.

I am not overly picky - I was hoping to find a close match in a tremclad spray can so I could do a quick touch-up job over a weekend.... I will see what I can find!

Unless you buy the paint from Mitsubishi, you'll have to take the code from the nameplate in your vehicle into Mitsubishi and they'll give you the "new" code (the codes from vehicles our age have all be updated).

Regardless, as Falco pointed out, unless you're only doing touchups, painting large sections of a 15-yr-old vehicle will become very apparent once you've finished.

That's why I'm holding off on mine until I'm ready to paint the whole thing - I'm thinking rally blue.

I only need to sand and re-paint the front areas behind/below the bush bar, where a bit of rust is developing due to me passing a sanding truck two winters ago... (My bush bar is bad from the same incident, but matching white is no issue...) I hope to find a close match if possible....

On another note, when I lifted the little carpet square to read the name-plate, I found a very nice Japanese rachet wrench! Bonus!! :-)

Naderade, here's a thread that might take your interest: Mighty Yeti Upgrades.

Great news about the Japanese ratchet wrench!

Thanks for the link Falco

I am extremely short on time these days, as I am getting married in 2.5 weeks, and we leave on our 6-week road trip at the end of July. SO, I think I am going to do a quick sand & spray touch up job on the bush bar for now, and then do it properly (as was done to the Yeti) in the fall once I've got more time.
